Considering conservatives are outnumbered by liberals 10:1 on this MB (yes, I pulled those numbers out of… somewhere), it should be no surprise that conservative views would be misrepresented more often than are liberal views. Hyperbole is rampant, and the libs have the numbers here. Not rocket science.

Here’s a great conservative idea: You don’t need to complain about being misrepresented if you are an actual participant; just say what view has been misrepresented. You can do it using facts, and without hyperbole or misdirection. You’re outnumbered? What would Andrew Jackson do? What would Ronnie do? Not gripe I assume.

I can’t understand how being outnumbered has anything to do with an intelligent philosophy or a factual argument.

You could light one candle by making one argument that one of us remembers next time it comes up here. Never seems to happen.

The problem is the celebrity-worship involved - where Americans see their president as the one person who is either causing all their problems, or could solve all their problems.

Yeah, there does seem to be a sizeable section of the population who apparently fervently believe that we’re electing a dictator, emperor, king or something other than a relatively circumscribed leader of the executive branch.

And then when something goes wrong, due to this ignorant conception of how the system works, they blame that guy, not the dim-bulbs in Congress, or their counterpart dim-bulbs at the state or local level who either caused the problem or who are failing to remedy the issue.

If the “you” was not the generic “you” and was directed at me: I’m not a conservative. And I’m not complaining-- quite the opposite. If you missed my point, it was that “conservative ideas are more often misrepresented here than are liberal ideas” is a completely unremarkable phenomenon given the political make-up of this MB.

There’s another possibility via Occams weiner: That SD is a generally good sample of thoughtful participants in discussions (Why wouldn’t it be?) and the 10% is a residuum that is created because of an oppositional ego based impulse in humans. If that weren’t the case then no matter how few cons there were they would be stating their case quite articulately. I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t occur naturally in that case. There is no muzzle on conservative intellect here at all.

I disagree that it’s unremarkable. If you’re not conservative than you won’t be insulted, but this is a gloss on what’s happening.
