Michael Stipe doing Tears for Fears?

There’s a commercial running right now with a remake of “Mad World” by Tears for Fears that sounds like it’s being sung by Michael Stipe from R.E.M. Does anyone know how to get a copy? I really like that version.

It’s done by Michael Andrews and it can be found on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. I believe it was #1 in the UK for a bit.

It’s not theGary Jules version from Donnie Darko is it? That sounds like Stipe (a bit).

You sure it’s not Gary Jules, from the Donnie Darko soundtrack? Kinda sounds like Stipe.

Google it or try this link (sorry if it doesn’t work)

Triple-simulpost and all three have words in common! Spooky. But I win.

BTW, you can youtube the video, it is pretty cool.

Hey, why do you win? It is actually composed by Michael Andrews and sung by Gary Jules.

Zoidberg wins!!

Thanks! I knew this board was good for something. It is on iTunes. woohoo!

Man, does that guy sound like Michael Stipe or what?

Hey, just joshing. But wasn’t it composed by Tears for Fears?

/I won teh internets.

Are you sure they wrote that song themselves? Maybe Roland Orzabal himself will come by and clarify.

When I said composed I didn’t mean he wrote the words, I meant he arranged the music. Bad choice of words onmypart.

I prefer the Donnie Darko arrangement, even although I’ve got a vinyl “The Hurting” somewhere. Early eigties synth-stuff hasn’t usually aged well, I think.

I think the cover peels back the layers of synth and reveals what I already suspected: those guys were darned good songwriters.

Aha! **Deep Fried ** (No, I’m not coding that) and I won by a couple of days

Neener neener! :stuck_out_tongue:

Funny, I just found that song too. I heard it from a neighbours room, and thought it sounded good, so I tried to find it in my collection. I was so sure it was Stipe singing, that I checked all REMs hits, and the whole of their new album. In the end I found it via google.

Brilliant cover.

Dammit! We should form an internet-based pub quiz team.

It wouldn’t be fair to the rest of the internet.

BTW, I was like the OP wondering about the song, not knowing the name of the game. I found this site on Google, AdTunes which has a lot of information about commerical songs.

Good cover, but I prefer the original. The original has a more angst, a nice bridge, and the original video has some great dance moves the cover video lacks.

Andrews is the guy playing the piano
