Michelle Branch

Anyone listen to her?

She’s actually pretty good. Of course, the stuff they play on the radio (Everywhere and All You Wanted) is standard top-40 treacle, but I think she’s capable of more. For one, she actually writes her own music and plays her own instruments! Bizarre, I know ;).

Her album stuff is pretty overproduced, although there are a few good ones on there. Something To Sleep To comes to mind. I like her acoustic stuff much better though. You can find her live/acoustic stuff on the various mp3 avenues.

“Goodbye to you” by Michelle Branch was on Buffy as one of the songs played at the Bronze(can’t remember what episode… I think “Tabula Rasa”). I remember because Spike and Buffy were making out there. Heh heh heh

But seriously, it’s a beautiful song. And I agree - her acoustic version of “Goodbye to you” is much better.

I’ve only heard a couple of her songs, the ones that have received radio play. The first hit, “Everywhere,” was pretty good. Nice melody, a couple of interesting harmonic things in the pre-chorus. She is waaaaaay overproduced, though; I heard her perform the song acoustically and it was much, much better.

And what’s with all these singers – I’ve heard this from Michelle Branch, Shakira, and several others – all pronouncing words like “here,” “there,” “me” and so forth like they’re Dolores O’Riordan from the Cranberries? Bugs the crap out of me. The word is pronounced “heer,” not “heeyar.”
