Microbiology: Is it considered correct to use the term "protist" anymore?

I’m working on a (mostly humorous) book for elementary-age kids that deals with various microbes.

We’re describing an amoeba. We were going to say “belongs to the protist kingdom.” But looking at Wiki, the term appears to be outdated.

However, saying, “Belongs to the Amoebozoa kingdom” imparts zero information, IMO, and “Belongs to the domain Eukaryota” doesn’t have the same ring. (Ideally, we want an analogue to “Belongs to the plant kingdom.”)

Are we incorrect in saying “belongs to the Protist kingdom?”

Do you consider dinosaurs to include birds? If so, then you have a big problem with the protists. If not, then feel free to use Kingdom Protista.

In other words, don’t sweat the details unless you really, really want to.
