Anyone up for a May dinner? If so – when and where?
QuiltGuy – last time we picked a Tuesday, which turned out to be bad for you – what weeknight during, say, the week of the 17th, would be good for you?
And, since we only had a 50% turnout last time – do we do King of Prussia again?
Was the 50% turnout due to location? I think it was more due to scheduling conflicts. K of P is fine with me, there’re lots of restaurants there. But I’m open to other suggestions. The week of the 17th sounds good for me.
Sorry – that was pretty unclear, wasn’t it? I meant, we’d talked about moving the location around to accomodate different people – since the turnout was low last time because Pandora was moving and JohnM got sick, I was suggesting that the April gathering in King of Prussia not “count,” and that we do it there again before discussing whether to move it or not for June.
Isn’t that much clearer now that I’ve explained it? ;j
Hey … I want in! I don’t know how I missed this last time, but I wanna join in for May. KOP is good me, too, as I work (literally) right up the street (Swedesford Road). Lemme know where to be and which disguise to wear, and I’ll be there!
I thought the pizza place was fine (what was that I had? pear and … gruyere?), but let’s let some others check in before we decide. Also, we need to figure out the hazing ritual for rockle, etc.
Well, actually, it was your willingness to, uh, participate in whatever we might dream up that made it clear that we’d have to plan a very, very special hazing ritual for you.
The pizza place is good for me also, I like it. But we definitely need a hazing ritual for rockle. Nothing as embarrasing as what the rest of us had to go through. That was too much! Maybe sort of a mini scavenger hunt. He needs to bring some specific item to be able to join in. How about a 1920s style death ray?
Ahem. She. And listen - I was in a Rocky Horror Players’ Group back in kollidge, so I ain’t skeered of your hazing threats. And I actually like scavenger hunts. So pfbbt.
oooohhh I have an idea… the rookie rockle could demostrate something she has learned here at the SDMB (with props)…in order to earn her dinner.
(for example, the rookie could bring a duck to demonstrate for us that a ducks quack does indeed echo in the mall)
Anyway… KOP is fine, I hate pizza, but the pizza place is fine, assuming they serve something other than pizza (most do, so I don’t expect that to be a problem)
I get the joy of covering 3 different jobs (other than the one they actually pay me for) the week of the 17th. Theoretically, any day that week should be fine, but there is the possibility of the pile of work collasping on me and burying me before I make it out the door.
I just threw out the week of the 17th arbitrarily – we could do it next week (the week of the 10th) or the week of the 24th, if one of those would be better – we don’t want you to miss two dinners in a row!
Love the “demonstration” idea! – quiltguy, when you find this thread, keep it in mind (though chocolate chip cookies might distract us long enough to let you insinuate yourself into the group without it).
And this “pizza” place, Pandora, is not your usual pizza place – as I said, I had pears and some kind of cheese, no tomato sauce, oregano, or mozzarella involved in any way. But they’ve got other stuff too.
Sorry, I guess I made that assumption because the name rockle sounds a little like “Rocky” (as in “Stallone” as opposed to “Horror”).
I wouldn’t worry too much about the hazing. I guarantee that whatever it is, it can’t be as bad as what we all had to go through. All of us refuse to speak of it and some may even deny that it ever occurred!
Next week (the week of the 10th) is, believe it or not, worse for me than the week of the 17th. Next week I have deadlines for two of my own projects in addition to covering for one other person.
The week of the 24 is marginally better (I’m covering for 1 other person at the beginning of the week, and 2 other people at the end of the week) but it’s the lead up to the long memorial day weekend which may be bad for some people.
In theory, I should be finished work on time, any night the week of the 17th or the week of the 24th (except possibly for the tuesdays of each week). It’s just that the more people I’m trying to cover for, the more likely it is that an “emergency”* will develop that needs my attention when I’d rather be doing something else (like leaving). It’s not worth worrying over for planning. There’s no predicting stuff like that.
Upon reflection, it’s clear that I’ve been with my current company too long, and I am obviously cross trained in way too many areas.
-Pandora the workaholic.
“emergency” in this case is defined by the person who runs screaming into my office… I rarely find these problems to be emergencies.
Usually Magenta. Sigh. I miss those days. It was so long ago.
I was thinking of coming in the clever disguise of a “Contract Administrator,” as no one but you Dopers would ever be able to guess what I was supposed to be.
How 'bout if I just quack like a duck? Or if I sing that obnoxious “Quackquackwaddlewaddle” song from those old McDonald’s commercials?
