MicroSoft Client for Networks Log-On

I cannot get one of the computers on my local home network to automatically log on to my network - or even to TRY to log on. I have checked the box in the Microsoft Client for Networks for the machine to automatically try to “Log On To Windows NT Domain” but it won’t try to (i.e. it won’t ask for a username and domain name like all my other machines do). I have tried new ethernet cards and have even uninstalled and re-installed windows - but it still won’t log on to the network.? Any ideas???

Do you have a common protocol installed, and if so, are the addresses from the same range? i/e: if you are using TCP/IP are the IP’s within the same subnet, and the subnet mask the same? In other words, if you are using, for example 192.168.1.x/255.255.255.0 on one machine, it must be from the same range on others, only the last number (the x) can change - and it must be different for all machines. Did you give it the name of the PDC, or at least the name of the common domain? What OS’s are you using. Have you checked to see if you can ping?

Usually if the machine can’t even see the network it will behave like this. If it is aware of a network at all, it asks for a username, waits to time out, then gives an error, but at least it asks for a username.

A little more info would help. What clients/protocols/cards are installed. Are you sure they are working (in System manager/device manager)
