Microsoft hates me

I knew it! This was why Vista sucked because too much meeting time was taken up how to trap me into that hellhole. Our laptop will probably die before we need to upgrade.

My WinXP machine went belly up about a year ago, and I picked up a reconditioned machine with Win7 at the Goodwill store. I’ve been on the lookout for any notification about an upgrade to 10 ever since, but I haven’t heard a peep.

I won’t even update to 8.1. I got suckered into it many months ago and ended up with the BSOD. I was lucky to be able to recover from it, and had to reinstall W8. As a result, I’ve blocked all auto-updates (which at this point would take about seven years to install) and refuse to even consider W8.1. Eventually, when I have to replace this computer, I’m hoping that there is a decent IOS version of Excel (the Apple database program really doesn’t play well with Excel documents), so I can dump MS altogether and buy a Mac laptop.

  1. Windows 8 (including 8.1) is an abomination that proves there is no such thing as a compassionate, loving god.

  2. I use MS Office 365, the subscription service, on my Macbook Air, and I have never had any document compatibility issues.

Interesting. When I asked about Office for Mac before, I was warned off by other dopers. Maybe I’ll give it a try and finally kick the Microsoft habit for good (almost).
