i’m in my early 50s and i sweat A TON at the gym, particularly after lifting. i am not abnormally sweaty (i don’t think!) otherwise, no night sweats, etc. but leaving the gym today, my shirt and my gym towel are both fully soaked through. this seems to be a relatively recent change, at least in the sheer amount of perspiration a cursory Google search indicates that men typically sweat LESS as they get older, so i’m like… is something wrong?
fwiw my physical this year was pretty much normal, so i don’t think there’s anything going on there, but i’m willing to entertain all thoughts…
Yes, I definitely do - one woman at the gym knew me only as “sweat man.” It isn’t an age thing (I am 61) - as a kid, I’d sweat through a down jacket when shoveling snow, and it isn’t a weight thing, as I sweat equally as much now at around 175 as I did at 265, though now it starts further into the workout than before.
One of my children told me this week that she and her sibs all know they are my kids because of how much they sweat.
hmm. mmmmaybe, but then that means all of my dinners have been too salty for the last, let’s say, 6 months! (Which very well may be the case, I dunno, I admit I don’t pay that much attention to sodium intake.)
I’m a major head sweater. I work outside in the summer and can sweat through a couple hats a month. I’m 50, btw. But it hasn’t increased since I hit middle age. I’ve always been this way. Got it from my dad who got it from his mom.
Age 55. Don’t sweat much lifting weights even though it does raise my heart rate and breathing. I have noticed however that doing the elliptical for 30 minutes at a steady 140bpm my face and neck are drenched.
yes, this is totally me and i think i’ve always been a head sweater, just seems like it’s now more than ever– but maybe it’s the heat and humidity, too. i guess i’ll work on cutting back on sodium and see if that helps.
Not really for me. When I run on hot days, I sweat a moderate amount, but a few guys I run with are so drenched in sweat, they look like they’ve just gotten out of a lake. When it’s not hot, I have to make sure not to drink too much on long runs or else I’ll have to stop to pee multiple times.
I’m 47, and I sweat a lot at the gym. It’s a sign of a good workout, and I’m disappointed with myself if I don’t break a good sweat. It’s also a sign that I’m well hydrated, which I consider a good thing (since muscles are more full when you aren’t dehydrated).
I sweat a lot during my workout. (rowing or lifting, then the Peloton bike). A lot. Seriously, I wouldn’t look any different if I had run into the shower for a minute or two. I don’t know if I’ve always been like this, as I’m only about 18 months into this routine. Age 64.
I’m not a gym fan; pretty much only in bad horrid weather or when I’m training for a race & using specific equipment, & when I’m there it’s basically for cardio workout, so yes I do sweat. If for some reason I was there to lift weights not so much.
My last run (not in a gym) was within the past 24 hrs. I did sweat there.
