The the linked article below this is the absolute first thing I’ve heard about middle class teens turning tricks being a pervasive and growing problem. Is Mr. and Ms. middle class suburban dweller’s little Tiffany turning tricks instead of going to the mall really an escalating problem for law enforcement? Anyone have stats on this. Is this really a burgeoning problem or narrowly focused sensationalistic media BS to sell magazines?

This is the first I’ve heard of it. Sounds like media hyperbole to me, but what the hell do I know. I live in a provincial midwestern city…

Isn’t this more of a case of sellers going to where they’re going to find more customers? And hasn’t teen prostitution always flourished?

The attitude displayed by Stacey is frankly appalling. I’m also appalled that her parents let her get away with it. Granted that childhood is a time to make mistakes, but it’s also a time to learn from them.

I have to wonder how the parents could possibly see that their children were getting lots and lots of new, expensive clothes all the time, and not wonder where they came from.

I believe this quite a phenomenon in Japan although I don’t have a cite for it. Young girls are hooking in return for the guys buying them expensive clothes and so forth. I’m fairly sure they have a name for it in Japan but again I couldn’t find a cite.

Seems like the article is trying to tap into the “our kids are growing up too fast” mentality. Are there middle class teens who are prostituting themselves for extra pocket money? Quite possibly. Is it an epidemic? Well I’m halfway across the world, but it’s the first I’ve heard of anything of the sort. My vote is that this is like the Special K “epidemic” - almost pure media hype.

Gives new meaning to the phrase “Label Whore” though, doesn’t it?

It brings a new meaning to all the “Mills” & outlet malls in the US. BTW, this is obviously very common in poorer countries like Cuba, Philippines etc.
