I agree with your interpretation. By all means, whoever feels sneakiest should follow the orcs and learn more. I don’t think Thoroncir would be best suited for the job, though.
Right! Now we are getting some information to work with. Most important may be a rough time to expect the vampire. Unfortunately, that time is two days away. I’m not sure how much more help we will be able to get before then. I agree that these orcs should be followed.
If Riglo is a captive, those are some tough orcs!
Well, what’s the weather like right now? Following could mean hearing more conversation, but might it be safer to wait until daybreak and follow the tracks?
Ghân agrees from the conversation that that the Vampire (Grilianch?) may only eat occasionally, and that the orcs are supplying him.
Therefore if anyone feels brave (and confident) enough to follow them, then this is worth doing.
There is currently no way to gain information around here.
I’ve got a nice Invisibility ready for anyone who wants to follow the orcs. Along with most of the others who’ve chimed in, I don’t see any reason to leave until after Riglo has come back, or at least until after he’s missed his return date.
Vampires, huh? Somehow, I suspect that Sleep won’t be very effective against one. I’ll keep it loaded in case I need to use it against orcs, but I’ll be using Magic Missile against any Vampire that I see. It’s a weak spell, but it should have an effect.
OK, how many of us are confident following orcs without being noticed?
And it **really matters ** since you will be away from the rest of us and may be spotted by a Vampire…
Deor has kindly offered an Invisibility, so maybe the sneakiest one should go first, followed by the second sneakiest using Invisibility and keeping an eye on the front one.
Deor, don’t underestimate Magic Missile! It’s really good.
Renee, “Perhaps one Elven Ranger and one invisible Hobbit for support? Or can Deor provide two invisibilities? I think he can.”
I get the feeling that Gil-Gandel and I are off following the Orcs then.
Oh well, Deor, cast away while the Orcs are still near. We will be back as soon as we can I guess.
Not getting into trouble along the way I hope.
Ghân: Only one Invisibility, so they don’t bump into each other.
The stealthiest relies purely on natural ability and the Invisible guy watches him.
I am perfectly happy to trust my natural abilities and the splendid garments of Lorien. [stepping out of idiom]These threads aren’t just for looking cool in, you know. :D[/sooi]
Elfstan also volunteers to follow the orcs. He’s obviously nervous about it (who wouldn’t be?), but is also eager to make up for the last time.
Renee, “I thought Miron was a tracker and Gil-Gandel a bard? You could send both elves and both hobbits if you like. The are all quiet and nearly invisible. I think Mulligan has the most need of the invisibility. The rest of Elven cloaks.”
Ghân: It’s great that there are so many volunteers, but perhaps one scout should stay behind?
Miron would usually be jumping out of his knickers to stealthily pursue orcs, but since I’m leaving in a couple of days I thought it might be a bad idea to plunk him into the chase… if the DM thinks we can resolve it before the 4th, though, I’ll happily volunteer IC.
Having resolved the timing issue:
“I have spent an exceptional amount of time trying not to be seen,” hisses Miron in a rushed whisper, gripping his cloak about himself as if in anticipation, “But I’m not a particularly skilled tracker. Perhaps I should follow the Orcs, and once I’ve returned and reported to the party I can race to report to Caramir, while one of the more experienced trackers helps the group find the lair?”
“Yes, by all means,” whispers Thoroncir. “Good luck!”
Having settled things, Miron nods briefly to the assembled group and slips off into the dark, attempting to stealthily follow the orcs.
An Elf is an Elf. They all look alike to me
Good luck Miron.
PS: This means I’ll stay here and keep an eye on things while others go galavanting off around the countryside following Orcs.
Anyone for a bite to eat while we wait
Ghân looks slightly nervous, as he only has 233 Goodberries left.
More seriously, Ghân wishes the trackers luck and will cautiously look for herbs in daylight, especially the ones ofr his paralysing venom, since Miron has expressed an interest.
(He is also casting five Goodberry spells at the end of each uneventful day.)
