Middle Earth FA63 D&D Game, Third Adventure, Ered Lithui Mystery Creature

Throughout the meal the party relays all the information. The Queen is please with all the good work on behalf the Gondor. She also thanks the party for returning her most rebellious daughter safely. “I fear she heard too many tales of Lady Éowyn. I am happy that at least she chose to avoid combat and that my Grandmother’s gift did her and you such a good turn. She told me once that she made it for the second of my daughters and that one day she would put it to more use than she could clearly see.”

I have a small gift for each of you as is the tradition on my Mother’s side.
Gwaelur son of Gwaelin: I have 4 Mithril steel bolts, they should never break. (each is +4 to hit/+8 damage)

Ghân-buri-Ghân son of Ghân-buri-Ghân son of Ghân-buri-Ghân who so aided King Theoden and thus ensured there would be a free Minas Tirith. I give you this Mallorn leaf, it should aid you in aiding nature. (Allows plant growth to work better (more control) and at +2 levels, Double area of effect and duration Locate Plant, Tree, Plant Door, Animal Growth & Wall of Thorns)

“Thoroncir comes forth”. You were on Detached Duty but now I have something else in mind of my own choosing. Prince Eldarion rises and salutes Thoroncir with his find blade. Gilraen has a large smile and comes up to the table.
The Queen, “Kneel please.” Gilraen takes a clasp from her mother and pins it to Thoroncir’s cloak. It is a single leaf of the White Tree. she whispers, “bow your head and remember to breath.”
Eldarion taps Thoroncir on both shoulders and says, “Do you swear upon the white tree to guard the realm and always represent your King and Queen with dignity and diplomacy.”

Thoroncir hesitates and Gilraen says, “Say Yes.”
“I do so swear and I do swear to especially protect the honor and dignity of the Ladies of the house of Telcontir.”

Eldarion, “Rise than Sir Thoroncir, Knight Errant of Linhir and Gondor.”

(The single leaf of the White Tree will give +1 saves vs poison & magic and near proof vs. disease and evil possession)

The Queen turns to Gilraen, “Don’t sit so quickly Lady Renee, you too shall wear the Clasp of a Knight Errant. You are released to the House of Estë and shall endeavor to always represent your King and Queen with dignity and diplomacy.”
She attaches the White Leaf Clasp to the pure white Robe of Estë.
“Where is Missy? Did you lose her somewhere, I thought you were inseparable.”
Gilraen/Renee, “She is here and invisible. She did well.” She hugs her mom, says something private and returns to her seat, tapping Thoroncir on the way to send him back to his seat.

“Gil-Gandel please step before me. I thank you for your aid and you are always welcomed in our courts. I have a small token of our great appreciation. A Quiver of Lothlórien to match your bow. (It holds 24 +1 slender arrows and the Quiver itself is extra light and very hardy. (+6 saves for itself and its arrows.))
May your voice never grow weary.”

“Miron Daelhind son of Tantegi & Athelen. Know you that I know your mother for long ago. She visited us for a time in both Lothlórien & Imraldis. I hope you will also take a A Quiver of Lothlórien as a token of our thanks. The Lady Éowyn speaks highly of you.”

“Elfstan Fairbairn, I see you have grown up. Your mom was always my favorite Lady-in-Waiting. Your Grandfather has done well to see to your needs, but I have this small token of the gratitude we shall always have to your family and their constant help. This is magic sling, you will find it swifter and more accurate.” (+2 Sling, allows 2 shots per round.)

“Angelica Mulligan Took, I am glad to see you as you are. You kept up the deception much longer than even Lady Éowyn. You have done much for us now and I hope you will accept this matching magic sling and these 10 silver bullets.” (+2 to hit/dam matching what you have.)

“Deor, I have something you may appreciate. Keep it safe and use it someday as the base of your Wizard’s Staff. Here is a well aged staff of Mallorn that should do you well as a weapon in the meantime.” (+2 Staff)

“Brin, I apologize for leaving you for last. I have both a gift and a message for you. As a token of our appreciation, I would like you to have this magic sword to go with the one you just acquired. (+2 Short)
Your King expects your return, I am afraid we abused his good graces, by borrowing so valuable a member of his scouts.”

Classy!

Deor half-unconsciously bows deeply as he accepts the staff from the Queen, his voice hardly cracking at all as he thanks her gratefully.

Miron acknowledges the Queen with a sharp, practiced bow, the ranger noticeably more relaxed now that the dining portion of their audience has apparently concluded. “Whether with bows or bandages I try my best to help,” he offers, pausing for a moment to properly compose himself before he continues and offers the requisite thanks.

As he steps back the ranger is unable to resist toying with the new quiver, experimentally slinging it across his hip for a moment before transferring it to his back and toying with the strap in an attempt to find the most comfortable fit.

Please Thoroncir, I am still Mulligan to my friends, Angelica is for formal occasions only. :slight_smile:

The best secret is that known by the fewest people. Gilraen and I knew each other and promised to keep each other’s identities secret. Elfstan knew who I was, given who his Grandfather and my Uncle are, and Ghan only found out when he healed me after I taunted the invisible Orcs.

Of course, I’m not surprised you didn’t notice, I believe your eyes were looking elsewhere a lot of the time :wink:

One note: after much digging through the old threads, I have reconciled the magic items that have been picked up. Here is the second adventure division.
First adventure that was already reposted by **CatInASuit **

I note that Gwaelur has a set of Banded Armor +2 for about 6’ tall: Númenórean make to sell from the second adventure and that the party has the Magic Chain mail Dol Amroth +2 to sell.

We’ll resolve this soon and then do some purchasing and I will then complete the update of the sheets including experience and send out updates.

Elfstan bows deeply as he accepts his gift from Queen Arwen. He finds himself overwhelmed by the moment and unable to find anything to say other than a half mumbled “thank you, Your Grace”. Those with sharp vision would notice a tear in his eye.

Ghân looks disappointed, but accepts Miron’s advice.
He tells Miron “I have a couple of special belches. One is just loud and bounces off the walls. But the other sounds like a Giant Frog. :cool: It can make a party jump!”

:: looks oddly at Gil-Gandel, wondering if he’s really an Ent… ::

Ghân really is a Wose - although if he keeps being successful you might see him change shape ;)!

Later Ghân will explain that healing people can reveal things. Naturally he was bound by Doctor-Patient privilege.

Ghân has come forward with hunched shoulders, not looking at anyone.
When he hears of the gift, he looks at the Queen, blushes, sinks to his knees and presses his head to the floor. Then he suddenly flinches, stands up again, blurts out ‘thank you Majesty’, takes the Mallorn leaf reverently and returns to his seat.
He spends most of the rest of the meal gazing at the treasure, or telling his companions “She knew my name. And my father’s name. And my grandfather’s name!”

Many thanks for that.

::looks woodenly at Ghân::

“Great Queen, though all of this company are apt of heart and hand in their service of this land’s King, some be less fleet of tongue than others; for which I pray you will excuse me if I presume to reply on behalf of the guests”.

Needless to say, Gil-Gandel’s harp is ready to hand.

Fulsome the praises and generous the gifting,
Joyous the feasting and merry the jest;
Warm is the welcome and fair are the ladies;
Music and dance are the best of the best.
Friends old and new join in gladness to sing
In the courts of King Estel, Elessar, Telcontar,
Of Hope

  • Elfstone
    • Strider the King!

Wide are the streets and a-prosper the people,
Fair peal the bells in each tower and steeple,
Ring all the courtyards with gay children’s laughter,
Peaceful this Age of the world and long after.

Shines the great city and gleams in the sunlight
Blazing from wall and high place in the morn;
Tall in its place grows the White Tree restoréd
Emblem of Numenor’s splendid new dawn.
Fresh aspiration let every day bring
In the city of Estel, Elessar, Telcontar,
Of Hope

  • Elfstone
    • Strider the King!

Green are the meadows and silver the river;
Strong-armed the Men from all foes to deliver;
Wide is the realm of the mighty Renewer -
Joy grow unbounded, and cares ever fewer!

Far spread the Free Folk; the country rejoices,
Glad grows the corn in the plenteous field,
Apple in orchard and cattle in pasture
Delights the rich Earth in full blessing to yield
Well come the folk of Wood, Mountain and Shire
In friendship the treasures of friendship to bring
To the Kingdom of Estel, Elessar, Telcontar,
Of Hope

  • Elfstone
    • Strider the King!*

Bowing to all the company, including Angelica Took whose revelation he has accepted with such equanimity that anyone would be forgiven for (erroneously) believing that he knew all along.

Phew. Was afraid events would move on before I could post this, and I wanted to make my ten-thousandth worth the bother. :smiley:

On the final chorus, Pippin’s fine voice is added in. He still sings fine.

Arwen, “I thank you for your song great minstrel.”

Sir Thoroncir can hardly believe it. He bows deeply and says, his voice choked, “Thank you, my Queen, my Prince and my Princess [the last two words somewhat rushed]. These are rewards and recognition far beyond any I might have dreamt of. The most royal House of Telcontar does me almost too much honour, in truth, but please know I am deeply grateful, and perforce will die before I fail in my duty.”

Thoroncir applauds the Elf-captain’s song. “Well-composed, well-expressed, and well-sung, noble Gil-Gandel! Huzzah!” He toasts him with his glass of Dorwinion wine.

Miron claps encouragingly as their captain’s song ends, although he declines the wine, apparently content to be uncomfortable and sober. (Clever scholars might make the connection between tonight’s wine and a particularly infamous night years ago where a young Miron, several other rangers, far too much dwarven mead, tar, and a badger may or may not have raised mild havoc in the barracks.)

Deor joins Thoroncir in his toast, enjoying the warm glow of the hall, the companionship, and a wine of a potency that his uncle Fengel would certainly not approve of.

Gwaelur makes a deep bow upon accepting the generous gift.

“Your Majesty, I have never been more honored than I am now. My sincere thanks for this gracious gift.”

“If the Evenstar herself shall call me a great minstrel, who am I to deny? But otherwise I should have said only that I hope to be one with much practice. Giver of praise, giver of gifts, giver of welcome and giver of grace, our company would fain thank you time without number, and through you Gondor’s King.”

Dorwinion wine, eh? Not a vintage for quaffing but for the respectful treatment of the discerning palate, and it warrants a toast of equal gravity.

"Your Majesty, great lords and personages of renown, ladies and gentlemen, let us remember in this splendid and potent wine -

"Battle-comrades past and present, those who have endured and those who have fallen, those who have shared our hurts and those who have healed them, brave foes who have fought with honour according to their kind, strange allies unlooked-for who have kept their word though it cost them dear, all who have succoured us with food, drink and bed at the day’s ending, and all friends near, far or seen no more. The Valar bless, reward and keep them and send their favour upon this realm and upon:

“The King Aragorn.”

::drinks::

::stands in respectful silence::

And now to get stuck into the Dorwinion good and proper. :smiley:

Ghân whispers to Gil-Gandel that the song brought joy to his heart.

“Now that was a toast,” Sir Thoroncir murmurs to Gil-Gandel after drinking to the King’s health. “Well said!”

As the guests mix and mingle after dinner, and when he has a moment alone beside Gilraen, he says, “I thank you, my lady, for whatever role you played in persuading the Queen and your brother the Prince to so honour me. I am especially happy to have been charged to ‘protect the honour and dignity of the ladies of the House of Telcontar,’ for such is my innate inclination, and has thus far always been my pleasure. May it ever be so!”

He toasts the Princess, his eyes meeting hers over the rim of his glass.

On the Dorwinion wine: It is not normally available as there are no roads yet. It would have to go up the River Running to Laketown, transported through the forest road to the Anduin at Old Ford and set down river, including the portage areas.

This wine was a special gift of Hodwain’s that he carried with him through the entire journey. As it was not transported properly, it was a little off, but still good. Better than any local wines.

Renee to Thoroncir, “Twas simple, you are my champion, are you not? Or did you forget?” She looks sadden by the thought.

Eldarion facing Gil-Gandel and catching everyone eyes in turn, “I toast the Elves of the fair woods and all free and brave people of Middle Earth. May the good overcome the evil and may all your fortunes be great.”

The night ends shortly after the songs and toasts.

There are some discussions with Tobur & Curunauth who is an old friend of Arwen’s. An exceptional Noldorian smith who Renee relates was the chief of those that reforged Anduril from Narsil.

Hodwain is put up in a special guesthouse within the finals walls. The rest are as said, welcome to stay in what is commonly known as the “Hobbit House”. This is in the innermost ring, just outside the gate to the Citadel and inner circle of Minas Tirith.

Merry offers to assist you in whatever dealings you will have in the next few days. Between my nephews and myself we will be able to guide you. Merry provides writing paper for Thoroncir and promises to get the letter posted early in the morning.

I will PM/Email the XP out over the next few days and once we resolve purchases, I will Email out character updates from my notes. Please verify the notes and see if I am missing anything. It could be as simple as the name of the animal or as important as a missing item.
