I am planning a trip to Chicago next weekend. Is Midway Airport closer to Magnificent Miles? or is it the O’hare Airport? Can you also tell me what’s in store for me in staying on Magnificent miles stretch? I am pretty much excited about this trip.
I’m a former Chicagoan and still frequent visitor; in fact, I’m going to be there next weekend too. I can’t really say which airport is physically closer to the Magnificent Mile (note that it’s actually singular), but from either one you can get to downtown, which is the start of the Mag Mile, by CTA train. From O’Hare you take the Blue line, from Midway you take the Orange line, both of which take you within a few blocks of Michigan Avenue.
I’m not familiar with the hotels in that area, but I know there are a lot of shops and sights to see. If you get a chance you might want to go to the John Hancock Center, Chicago’s tallest building; the observation deck gives you a magnificent view of the city, and there’s also an audio guide with lots of interesting info about Chicago’s history.
Um, the Hancock is not the tallest building in Chicago. It’s the fourth tallest.
Midway Airport is a few miles closer to downtown and the Magnificent Mile.
I misremembered; I was thinking back to the publicity it got as the tallest building in Chicago when it was completed.
