I saw and heard a flock of cranes fly over… They sounded like Whooping Cranes ,but I didn’t get a close enough look to be truly sure. It wasn’t a huge flock… No geese yet.
There are no ‘flocks’ of Whooping Cranes.
Gaggle? Flappage? How many flying dinosaurs does it take to make a flock??
Whooping cranes migrate. Last year 266 birds made the trip. I’m calling that a flock. Unless there’s another term for cranes then there is for geese, but I couldn’t find it.
twenty thousand cranes migrating
and some pics
Sorry,… these aren’t whooping cranes, they’re common Eurasian cranes. But, hey, there’s a whole bunch of 'em.
Lots of sandhills headed north over Sacramento the last couple of weeks.
I know spring is on its way when I see Canadian geese returning to the Boston area.
Not only are they back, they’re, um, frisky. I saw what can only be described as a goose orgy. I cannot un-see it.
Saw a large (20 or more) kettle of Black Vultures catching the updraft and sailing North… The Fall Elm and Live Oak are throwing pollen around with wild abandon… I’m sneezing and wheezing and that’s with allergy pills.
We can tell it’s spring around here when the flux of vehicles with Quebec license plates changes from [10 southbound for every 1 northbound] to the opposite. Ditto New Jersey plates.
The Migration has truly begun. Off they go, driving North for the summer.
nit pick: Canada Geese.
