Now he has absolutely no reason to hold back and tell us all about the lead up to January 6. He can say whatever he wants to about Don the Con, his political career is over. Will he? Of course not, he’s still a wimp.
“Breaking: Mike Pence, speaking at the RJC, just said he’s suspending his presidential campaign.”
Is anyone surprised by this? I’m surprised he even attempted to run against Trump. I’m sure he’ll end up endorsing his old friend, who nearly got him hung.
I actually expect him to do his best remora imitation and valiantly attempt to reattach himself to Trump’s ass, because he convinced himself that it was what God wanted him to do. He might even try to get the band back together and beg for his old job back, which will be fun to watch.
The delusions of the God-Bothering Lickspittle know no bounds, it has always amazed me that even after being at the center of Trump’s pressure campaign, that he felt it was a good idea to bring his wife and daughter to the Capitol with him on January 6th.
Thinking about it some more, maybe Pence is doing exactly the best he can for Biden.
If pro-NATO, and thus anti-Trump, Republicans like Pence (others might include John Bolton and, gulp, GW Bush) explicitly endorse Biden, this could signal those on Biden’s left that Joe isn’t in their camp, sending them over to Cornel West. So a never-Trump message, without a clear nod to Biden, may be their wisest, most patriotic, move.
I’m guessing that Pence’s fear of the people who wanted to hang him on Capitol grounds has more to do with his reluctance than NATO. But what do I know.
Honestly there’s no silver bullet. Some Republicans need to decline to endorse. Others have to regretfully say that they will vote for Joe Biden. Via Kevin Drum, here are a list of major Trump appointees who have turned on him in some way.
Vice President Mike Pence
2, 3. Chiefs of Staff John Kelly, Mick Mulvaney
4, 5. Secretaries of State Rex Tillerson, Mike Pompeo
6, 7. Secretaries of Defense Mike Esper, Jim Mattis
Attorney General Bill Barr
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos
Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao
HHS Secretary Alex Azar
12, 13. National Security Advisors John Bolton, H.R. McMaster
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats
16, 17, 18. Directors of Communications Stephanie Grisham, Anthony Scaramucci, Alyssa Farah Griffin
Some of these need to come out in explicit support of Joe Biden. Those will be dismissed by some Republicans, who might have their views shifted by Mike Pence. Preservation of our 240 year experiment with democracy requires a variety of approaches.
We should keep long memories regarding billionaires who currently finance Trump or -now the same thing- the RNC.
