Bugs quite a bit when people keep saying this. Just because a year has passed for us does not mean a year has passed for them. They can run ten more seasons and they can be portrayed to be the exact same age. It might not work well with the actors (what, with the nuisance of aging and all). That’s what artistic license is for.
