I don’t think you know what Chigger means, when you call a person that. In South Arkansas.
I don’t expect any one to know every regionalism, of course.
But,
It’s an itchy bug that irritates.
It’s very close to the (N) word. And is used as such.
It’s derisive.
It’s demeaning.
Ugly and maybe hate speech.
I find it a very offensive slur. On my person.
@Left_Hand_of_Dorkness you do not have the right to school me on when, how and where I apologize. Who the hell do you think you are?
I will not apologize for making my own assessment of Walz and his stupid hotdish.
I did not ruin that thread. The OP asked what problem was. That’s what I think the problem was. Right or wrong. It’s what I think.
If cooking hot dish cookery=sexism, don’t expect me to remember that.
You know, not everything is about sex. I’d tell you to go suck an egg but I’m afraid you’ll find me being a bigot, racist or sexist.
Oh and I’m not interested in hearing from you, either.
Oh fuck that. I have the right to my opinion. Your hypocrisy on this issue would be astonishing, if I didn’t already understand how dumb you are.
You don’t have to learn anything, but I’ll judge you accordingly if you keep saying stupid sexist shit. Which you apparently will do.
Good god you’re stupid.
Cool. I meant for you to find it offensive, because I find your stupid judgy sexism offensive. The idea that “it’s close to the n-word” because, what, they rhyme? is just more of your idiocy. So if you found it offensive, mission accomplished!
Don’t start none, won’t be none. Keep on starting, there’ll keep on being. Up to you.
What immediately came to mind for me (after the complaint) was Chinese person “acting black”, to go along with the existing terms “wigger” (white) and “jigger” (Japanese). The Urban Dictionary gives page after page of that definition. But I have my doubts that Arkansas has a significant population of Asian-Americans that emulate Hip-Hop culture so I don’t know what’s going on there.
Calling a person of Chigger is hate speech.
He meant it to be hateful. His intention was to make fun of me with his clever wittiness. It demeans my southerness. My very life, in fact.
Admitted he meant to hurt.
Calling some one any nasty name on social media is cyber bullying.
He can’t hate on me anymore. I won’t allow this, on my person. If I see it happen to someone else I’ll speak up.
It’s wrong.
He knows it’s wrong.
You know it’s wrong.
I mean, if almost anyone else told me that “Chigger” was a racially-tinged insult in Arkansas, I’d at least consider it long enough to ask for a cite–despite my having known what chiggers were since before I’d heard the racist epithet it rhymes with, and despite my having gotten chigger bites all my life from a young age up through this summer.
But when someone refutes charges of sexism by saying, “get your head outta your pants…not everyone has sex on the brain,” I don’t feel inclined to take anything they say seriously.
Um, sexism isn’t about sexy times. It’s about discriminating against people in non-sexual situations based on their perceived sex or gender. "get your head outta your pants…not everyone has sex on the brain,” is a really bizarre response to an accusation of sexism.
