I’ve slunk through this thread, and all I wanna know, is, having had more than my share of chigger bites on my ankles …
…
complaining about chigger bites is racist now?
Lived in the Dallas area for 30 years, and I can guaran-damn-tee you, I’d be laughed out of any bar (or they’d buy me a drink, just for the ballz) for claiming that.
Yeah. I have to support @What_Exit here. The discussion was becoming a hijack of the “what were you thinking” thread, which usually has lots of short bits. He was absolutely not “out to get you” when he created this spin-off.
Oh good! I hired a guy to fix my washing machine today, and watching how quickly he worked, and how certain he was able how to unclip clips and and stuff, I’m really glad i didn’t try to do it myself. I’m impressed by your ability to confidently install a garage door opener.
I have to agree with you here. I find opinions much more interesting than what is often the accepted narrative. There is always a little story behind every opinion and that is what entertains me most. Opinions and perspectives are what drive the world.
I think the last handful of years proved something to us: faith – the belief in things for which there simply is no evidence – is NOT benign. It can be extremely harmful. It can tear a country apart. It can pave the way for an Authoritarian Head of State.
“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that ‘my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’”
–Isaac Asimov
It has nothing to do with believing an opinion or even giving it fair consideration it has more to do with why does that person have that opinion. We need to know those things.
As far as faith goes, you gave a good example of an intellectual declaring that his lack of belief is more important than your belief. He has no comprehension of what faith can give a man. He also fails to acknowledge any of the good that may have come from faith.
Goddamn, dude, are Nazi opinions more interesting to you than “humans should not be annihilated” (which is the accepted narrative) cuz that’s what your post says.
But we are not far off from the school auditorium situation where kids notice the program is about to start so it’s time to be quiet and they say “shhh!” really loud, which prompts other kids to say “SHHHH!” even louder, so more kids go, “SHHH!” and “SHHH!” … well, you get the picture.
