Mild Pitting of Beck

Oh, I see what you mean. If the definition of “attack” includes “incorrectly ascribing negative motivations to others” then yes, she does attack. For example, what she said about WhatExit?, which was pretty unfair.

It’s a pretty strange thing to say and be so adamant about, especially when based on absolutely no evidence.

If I said “I don’t think my neighbor likes ham and cheese sandwiches,” and someone asked me why, is it okay to say “it’s just my opinion. He doesn’t look like the kind of guy would would like them.” Most people would be like: WTF?

What if he dresses as an orthodox Jew?

Kosher observant Jews wouldn’t necessarily dislike ham and cheese sandwiches. If they’ve kept kosher their whole life, they wouldn’t know what one tasted like. Maybe they’d love it. They just can’t eat them.

But this is a silly digression.

…And cooks with a gas stove…? I’ve seen those anti-flame blankets on TV and I sure would hope he’d have and use one. Nobody wants to drive down the street while orthodox Jews ( actual or just dressed up for Halloween ) run down the sidewalks screaming and engulfed in flames. After all, this is America, God Dammit.

Right, this is the argument clinic. Silly digressions is down the hall.

I know right? I open my mouth sometimes and remove all doubt about my social grace. Best shut up and seem, mysterious.

We make judgments all the time about other people, we just don’t verbalize a lot of them. Some of them are inferred based on behavior, attitude, facial expression, etc. They are thus speculative in nature for that reason. It is far from unusual, and I view them with, “Hmm, interesting, we’ll see.”

My grandmother used to get feelings about people right away. As a young kid, I didn’t understand how she could express such a definitive feeling based on relatively little interaction. Over time, however, her initial feelings were uncannily accurate.

My only issue with that is that TPTB have told other problem posters to get a blog because they keep posting trivial nonsense, similar to but much worse than what Beck posts. Beck does it an awful lot and it seems mildly popular here. IMO, there appears to be a bit of a double standard. I would prefer if she had a single thread to post her observations but it’s not a hill I’d be willing to die on.

And now she doesn’t feel like she is welcomed in starting a new thread about the time she made a relative dance before they could come in her house, so she starts a new thread about how she can’t start a new thread for each and every one of the “1000s of stories about my weird existence” so that they “could be enjoyed and appreciated by others”.

Beck, there are people that enjoy your stories, as evident by the amount of engagement you get in your threads and the number of defenders you have in this one. But if you believe there is anyone on the face of the Earth that will be universally liked, then that is the greatest delusion you have ever exhibited in this group. Not even observational humorists like Garrison Keillor, Mark Twain, Dave Barry, and David Sedaris are universally reveled in. Continue to post for the people that obviously do exist here that want to hear your stories, but if you are expecting absolutely everyone to in one voice acclaim that you are the bestest, funniest, most interestingest and most perfectest person to ever live, I’m afraid that there is literally nowhere you (or anyone else) will ever find that.

I really have no opinion of Beck at all, but I just saw the post you’re referring to and good lord the martyrdom is off the charts.

You know what, I really shouldn’t have said anything. I’m not vested in this one way or another and my drive-by post contributed nothing to the conversation. My apologies.

Yep, thats my Q&A thread! I hope the non-degenerates in that thread learned some cool things.

Midwest Degenerate Gambler
-I am waiting for some non-degen people to message me anytime now! I can give them additional tips and we can even meet up in person! I dont like recruiting other degens, they are a liabilty and they smell like cigarettes. Ok, i’m joking, I will unlikely recruit. One could hope though!

It’s funny, in poker ‘degenerate’ has a different meaning, someone subject to poor control and wild swings in outcome (and often other personal issues like addiction). But you sound way more organized than that.

Now she’s trolling the “What were you THINKING” thread, where all this started. I guess her pity party in MPSIMS wasn’t drawing enough attention.

I had to take a few calming breaths before writing a semi-reply there, although I did enjoy @Joey_P’s comment.

Yes, that was good, although I have to admit I didn’t think the post was so much thread-shitting as a straightforward “look at me!” non sequitur.

So 477 replies, and not one of you reprobates offered to tell those of us who aren’t American know what a ‘hotdish’ was.

And by the way, sounds atrocious.

I’m not too certain myself, but I think it’s how people who are too far from the coast to pronounce fancy French words say “Casserole”.

Eta: I found this handy chart:

These are the same people who play “Duck, Duck, Grey Duck”.
