So Walz doesn’t cook, but if he does, he’s only following others’ recipes (possibly stolen from community cookbooks) and it’s ok to judge him because a couple times he’s been less than perfectly truthful.

Perhaps you are assuming that those of us amused by “Tim Walz’s prize-winning hot dish recipe” are in awe of what an original chef he is. I assure you, we’re not that stupid. The whole schtick of community cookbooks is that they contain endless variations on a theme.
Do you actually believe that I (or anybody else) really think Tim Walz spent hours in his test kitchen, slaving over endless variations of hot dish and taking copious notes until he found the perfect balance of salt and artificial ingredients? Do you think that his campaign WANTS us to believe that?
C’mon. It’s all a light-hearted way of presenting an image of Tim Walz as the kind of guy who would enter a recipe in a hot dish contest. True to the community cookbook mentality, no one cares if his recipe is remarkably original. ALL the recipes are variations on a theme. That’s what hot dish is.
I am pretty sure you know that already. But it’s not clear to me that you realize the rest of us know it too, and we don’t think less of Tim Walz for that reason.
Threads like this are bad for the Dope. Yes, I know these attitudes are permitted in the Pit. But if a poster, any poster, starts stating their opinions on a subject outside of the pit, without profanity or real ugliness, why is that necessarily a cause for even a mild Pitting? Aren’t we all allowed to have differing thoughts on a subject without being remonstrated with? Over the nearly twenty four years I have been on the Dope I’ve found that I have enjoyed learning from different attitudes. We are never going to find anyone at all who completely fits our own notions of how we should think.

It just seems to me, and probably others, some homebound people want attention and posting contrary things may get them that.
Not everyone wants bad attention and not everyone is right about things they’ve posted, as I have found out myself.

As I hope was clear from my first actual post in this thread (the second one in practice, because this was split from the “What were you thinking” thread), I didn’t think a separate Pit thread for Beck was necessary, certainly not for hijacking a thread that was pretty trivial in the first place. And we should point out that @Smapti, the unwitting OP, is also blameless in this regard.
And while I am engaging in this thread (mostly because anything related to community cookbooks is a siren call to me - they are a goldmine for amateur sociologists like me), I trust I am not trashing Beck. Disagreeing with her, talking to her and trying to figure out what she’s saying, absolutely. But not being over-the-top critical, I trust.
Again, it was two mistakes, not a string of lies. Unless you have additional information that the rest of the world doesn’t, you should perhaps STFU about it.

Yup. Since you both claimed to have some it, and seem to be confused, i can confirm that you both reported her.
But i want to point out the background, which is that we are in the midst of an ugly negative political campaign, and Beck lives in the midst of Republican territory, and if i have seen a bunch of posts about what a liar Walz is, and how “he even lies about his cooking”, Beck must have seen hundreds of them. And you know, that kind of thing rubs off. It’s not important enough to research or even to think hard about. So I’m pretty sure that’s where she’s coming from.
And Beck, i think you are wrong, i think he really did enter some hot dish contest, and really did win it, and someone, probably him, wrote up the recipe he followed. And yeah, every hot dish recipe is similar to every other one. And i think he used turkey in the one i posted because his constituents raise a lot of turkeys and he wanted to suck up to them. But i think he actually did make a hot dish featuring ground turkey.

This has long been my thought. Other, less-liked posters have been told to get a blog when they post too much random garbage threads here. I’m not saying her threads are all nonsense, but others have been modded for the number of content-free threads. I’d be happy if we combine all those into a single thread, she doesn’t need to be silenced.
I can’t believe I read any of this. I guess it’s time for me to go to bed. Or fold laundry or something.
I’ll admit I’ve thought this. She joined this board in 2017 and has started hundreds more post topics and made thousands more posts than I have even though I’ve been here 16 years longer. Sometimes it’s good to just stop and think about what you are about to type before you do it on a board like this.
If you just need to vent/share about anything and everything in your life, blogging is a really good way to do that and you can invite your fans to join you there and post their comments.
Sure, but this is the place to fight ignorance, not a safe space to push it. And if you post something wrong and then stubbornly persist in it, you’re going to get pushback (as you should). This thread looks like that pushback.
I don’t think Beck is being malicious, I’ve had conversations with her in PMs not long ago and I’m sure she’s not trying to stir anything up, but this is a community that doesn’t have a tolerance for that kind of nonsense. It’s kinda the reason this community exists.
