McDonald’s has brought back their old school Hot Apple Pie and that’s all well and good. I intend to get one. What I’d really like to try again is one of their Hot Cherry Pies. Remember those?
I do but I always liked apple more.
I would certainly like apple better now but I preferred cherry as a kid. Same as regular pie.

Interesting factoid that I did not know: the pit link does not show to me, because I have her on Ignore, unless I un-ignore that post. I presume that’s because that link is to that specific post.

That’s not quite right. There’s no rule against linking to stuff from the Pit. There is a rule against putting explicit insults to other Dopers in thread titles, specifically because the back link function will then put the thread title into a non-Pit thread, functionally breaking the “no insults outside the Pit” board rule.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe if you link to someone’s post from the “Trolls” thread, it’s effectively calling them a troll in that other thread and it’s not allowed. Like, someone posts something I don’t like in a P&E thread, I link to that post from a Trolls thread post, and now that link appears in that P&E post effectively signaling to everyone reading that post that it’s a trolling post. Which is violating our rule about not calling someone a troll outside of the Pit.
I believe that’s the only situation where that’s not allowed though. Maybe Roderick was remembering that and extrapolating it to every link from a Pit thread.

No, that’s different. Miller was referencing the rule that a Pit thread can’t say “Atamasama is a complete asshole” (regardless of whether or not it’s true; that one probably is), and now should say something like “Atamasama is pitted”.
The Trolls thread isn’t calling out a particular poster so it’s not violating that rule, but linking to a post from within that thread still has the effect of calling someone a troll outside of the Pit.
I suppose it’s possible to have future threads with generic insult titles, like “Bigots on the Board”, but we just don’t have them and probably don’t need them.

Yeah. I suppose the troll thread doesn’t necessarily only contain posts calling people
trolls. It could be highlighting a particularly apposite skewering of a suspect troll
