I mean, what she wrote about Walz was absolutely sexist, in this mild but annoying way she persists in posting. I avoid her threads for the same reason I don’t go for strolls in Chigger State Park, and if I read them and was bothered, that’d be on me. But when she comes into an otherwise fun thread and drops her stupid little sexist turds, she may as well be injecting her allergic saliva under my skin for all that I enjoy it.
Chiggers are irritating Southern critters that show up uninvited and annoy me all out of proportion to their size. If ever a chigger said, “Huh, you know, I really shouldn’t have bitten you,” I’d be much less annoyed at them. And if Beck ever said, “You know, you’re right, that was a sexist crack, and I should be more careful about making them,” I’d gain respect for her.
As it is, though, I was wondering if someone would start a thread about that latest bit of obnoxiousness; and here we are.
This is easy to say, and in fact I do. But it is nearly impossible to ignore her effect on threads where she starts stating her unpopular opinions as facts, and generating dozens of replies and arguments, derailing whatever discussion was going on to the extent that I often end up abandoning those threads as indecipherable. I don’t care what she does or says in MPSIMS. If that’s all she did, I wouldn’t even know about it.
I also don’t care about her health problems or how this board gives her a social outlet. I resent the fact that moderators give her a pass (and one of them said as much once in an ATMB thread, I’ll try to find it but I’m not so hot at those kinds of searches) about using this board as a blog because it’s all just in MPSIMS. I do not think it is the place of moderators to look the other way when the rules are violated. And it isn’t all in that forum any more, and she has disrupted far too many threads with bullshit and garbage. Maybe it’s just for attention, as others have claimed, I don’t know, and I don’t care. The effect is the same either way.
If my comments earlier in this thread have caused her to flounce, be it for ever so short a period, I’m glad. (Also, I’m sure saying that will bring her back all the faster.)
I don’t believe there is currently a rule against “blogging”. There are rules against
Excessive posts. Do not post the same or similar messages or threads to multiple forums; multiple threads on the same topic; or an excessive number of threads on any topic within a limited period of time.
And against hate speech and spam. But there’s no rule against chatting about what’s going on your life, so long as you are engaging other posters, and not just creating a thread by and for you. Much of MPSIMS is material that could go in a personal blog.
As expected, I couldn’t find the thread, although I think I found a reference to it (but not a link). It was a couple of years ago or maybe more, possibly before the most recent rule revisions; and I am operating purely from memory, so I can’t insist I know what it said.
So I’ll go back to what I said in response to your earlier post: you can ignore someone all day, but you can’t ignore it when they blow up a thread, and half of the other posts are responses to her posts.

I’ve thought about this too, and my theory is that it’s a “toilet paper topic.” Let me explain what I mean by that:
Decades ago, Ann Landers published a letter from someone asking if rolls of toilet paper should be hung so that the flap is over or under (she said over). This generated more letters than any other topic she ever addressed.
Why would so many people get so invested in such a trivial topic? My personal theory has always been that it’s a topic everyone can discuss on an equal footing - we all have an “educated” opinion, because everyone uses toilet paper and we all care which way it goes. It’s not like some people have done more reading on the subject and some have PhD’s in toiletpaperology.
I just Googled the Ann Landers toilet paper brouhaha and found out this may be more than my personal theorizing: apparently there is a concept in sociology called “social constructionism” that relies on the TP story as a classic illustration of the phenomenon.
I don’t know if the intermittent Beck furors count as social constructionism or not. Maybe. I’d have to read beyond a Wikipedia page to form a more intelligent judgment.
But I’m sticking with the “toilet paper topic” formulation.

I too have been a little puzzled about the dislike exhibited here. Beck is being criticized for style, attitude, opinions, whatever, like it’s a bad thing. It seems because she doesn’t think like them, then she’s wrong.
She’s wrong because she makes broad generalizations about people based on uneducated surface impressions, proclaims them as if they were scientific fact, and doubles down and gets righteous and indignant the second anyone questions her about it.
