Miles the Monkey's World Tour

For those of you who weren’t aware, Bear Nenno (Napples, to the folks at home) started a Bear World Tour. Turned out, however, the Bear is a Monkey. All the same, he’s touring the world, and he stopped by my place a few weeks back.

BTW, the monkey’s name is Miles, and my place is Las Cruces, NM. I’m about 45 miles north-west of El Paso, TX and/or Juarez, MX, and 220 miles south of Albuquerque. (That ends our geography lesson for today)

I had Miles for 4 days. Unfortunately, I was incredibly busy that week, so we didn’t get to do some of the things I’d planned. We missed White Sands Missle Range and the Gila National Forest. (Sorry) We did, however take a short jaunt down to “Historic” downtown Mesilla. I’ve lived here for 13 years, and it was only my 4th or 5th trip, so I count Miles as Lucky. Lucky Monkey.

Miles arrived on Monday June 6th, late in the day. It was late enough that there was nothing to do but some drinking (and such). We had a blast with my pals Patrick, Bosco and Brian.

Tuesday I went to work and Miles slept off the night before. Lucky bastard.

Wednesday we went to Mesilla, and then to the bars that I work at. We played with all the bartenders and the regulars in all 3 bars. Miles was seen playing foosball, but he’s a little short to have actually won. I’d say he took the loss OK.

Thursday I boxed the kid for a trip to Trippler in Iraq. The P.O. was closed on Friday, so he didn’t actually get in the mail til the following Monday, but I assume he’s there by now.

BTW, the reason this thread is being posted 3 weeks later is simply because I don’t understand computers/pictures/jpg files. . .etc, etc, etc.

Awww, Miles is cute! Can’t wait to see more photos of where he’s been, and add some photos, too!

Last I heard from Tripler, Miles was having a blast in the ME. He was playing on some military vehicles and hangin with “Joe”. I believe he should be on his way to Australia soon. I’ll send Tripler another email to get an update. He’s pretty busy over there. Apparantly there is some kind of war or something going on there.

And those of you who are already on the tour list, be ready for him. Depending on where your name is in the stack, you might see him next month or in 10 months! I’m thinking of having a $50 prize to whomever takes the best picture of him. Best could be funniest, prettiest, emotionalist (woo hoo new word!)… I think after the tour is finally over, we’ll nominate some of the better pictures and the Dopers can vote on the best one. That aughta increase participation a little!!

BTW, whoever is getting him in Australia. Please take a picture of him inside a kangaroo’s pouch - if that’s possible. If tv has been at all accurate, you should know at least a couple people with pet kangaroos, right?

There is no official “in order” list. When I mailed him off, I did attempt to put the far away places on the top - to get them out of the way. But the address labels got all bounced around during shipping anyway.

I just received word from Tripler. Miles is in the mail and on his way to YOU! Guess those labels bounced around in transit again :wink:

Here’s his email to me:

"Ach!

I held on to him for one more week than originally planned, planning to get him
on a sortie on an F-16, but it fell through. A buddy of mine from school was
trying to squeeze him onto his jet, but his mission got scrubbed, and he got
DNIFed at the end of the week with a sinus infection.

But today’s payday, and Miles is now off to Misty Better in Scranton IA. I
don’t have her e-mail address. Can you send her a note to let her know it’s on
the way?

Another Email from Tripler about Miles

Unfortunately, the pictures didn’t really turn out too well. I didn’t find this
one tent I wanted to get a shot of. Some Aussies had written “ALL YOUR BASES
ARE BELONG TO US!” on the plywood door of their TEMPER Tent, but I think the
door was taken down. Damn.

But, Miles is on his way with a wad of Riyal in case he meets any she-monkeys
along the way. He’s got my coin, too.
