Heck, people are so paranoid, there’s probably a bunch of undercover cops there.
Pfff. Coffee. We supposed to be grateful for that?
How 'bout some beer?
COFFEE? I’m counting on vast quantities of alcohol to get me through the night! I survived Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne but this is a whole different ball game. I wouldn’t worry about enabling her (questionable?) taste in music. My kids have to play classical music on the violin, learn “World Music” at school and have The Red Hot Chili Peppers on their shuffles so I think they can be forgiven a little lapse into teenie-bopper stuff. Mine have in fact gone off Hannah Montana but are ok enough with Miley Cyrus. Wish I’d known that before I bought the tickets!
They don’t know it yet but they’re also going to see Taylor Swift which will at least be marginally more tolerable for me.

Then you’re not like me, who gets much more music snobbish with more alcohol (or probably more precisely his inner music snob comes out.)

If she wasn’t so young I would probably tipple a bit beforehand- we are going to be taking public transportation. As it stands, however, I think I will be sticking with the earplugs…
Oh, and re the good deal- I know! That is the only reason we are going. I saw something on television about the dad drag show a year or so ago and swore it wouldn’t ever happen. $25 bucks a ticket is rocking.
Review of last night’s show: Miley Cyrus leaves Hannah behind
No, no, no. You’re going about this parenting thing all wrong. Your kids are supposed to be a vicarious means of expressing your own unfulfilled dreams, hopes and aspirations. They shouldn’t get to decide what they like doing themselves. They exist principally for your benefit. By age 7 you should be enforcing a restricted musical interest in barely-listenable-to Scandinavian experimental electronica and free jazz.

A slight hijack, but this is something I’ve always been curious about:
Since pretty much all of Miley Cyrus’ fans are prepubescent girls, I imagine at least 20% of the people attending have to be parents. What do they do? Is there a “parents island” they can repair to, with booze and soundproofing? Or do they just stand there and endure it?
There was a bar, very reminiscent of an airport lounge, where parents could chill and read the paper and surf on their phones and drink $11 draught beer.

I have friends (myspace link) who play that, and only scheduling has kept us from that!

(three stars of five)
The show was great, but Miley just isn’t a dancer.
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Tour @ Oracle Arena @ - Oakland @ ,CA @ - Fri, Sep 18, 2009 @
**Favorite moment: **The solo battle of the two guitarists, and the high flying surprise moment that I shan’t describe. You have to see it for yourself!
Setlist: I have no idea. My daughter freaked out and HAD to dance and sing for the Hillbilly Hoedown, but other than that, I don’t know the names of the songs.
Opening act(s): Skipped it intentionally, but it was well appreciated by both the children and the adults as gleaned from post-concert conversations with other attendees.
Location: Oakland, CA The stage show was amazing, with decent pyro, AWEsome lights, and really good sound.
With the audience participation on the screens via texting and teh kewl surprise moments of truly astounding stage technology, the show almost made up for the fact that Miley wasn’t lip synching.
Unfortunately, she should have been.
I cannot fault her as a worker- she was singing her heart out and dancing it out too. She lacks the ability to do both at once, and while the dancing was semi-disguised by the show around her, her frequent costume changes, and the talents of her dancers, her voice wasn’t helped by the normal filters and mixers they run her through for album and video production.
At times out of breath and rarely perfectly on key, it was a rather sad event.
She is a good actor, and she put on a good show. But stick with the tried and true supershow methods, and just lip synch it, Miley. Your fans won’t care, but the people who fork out the money and are forced to put up with substandard fare would much rather hear the saccharine sweet bubble-gum remix than listen to her actually singing off-key and breath-less.

I’ll let my friends on the pyro and lighting crews know. They’ll high five each other and do extra Jaegerbombs prolly.

Oh, and for the record, the only reason I said ‘decent’ pyro is that there just wasn’t a whole lot of it. It was very well done. The lights were better than I have seen at any concert, ever.
I was really impressed with the whole stage show. That is what kept me from rating it as less than acceptable (below a three of five). They are awesome professionals.
Oh, but my daughter was upset that none of the guys on ladders fell off. She didn’t want anyone hurt, but she wanted to see some rope ladder slapstick.

Just out of morbid curiousity (I probably wont be going to a Miley Cyrus show anytime soon) but was a beer actually 11 bucks, or was that just said for effect, (because I am sure that a beer was really expensive, but 11 dollars would have me calling the Organized Crime/Racketeering division at the OPD)
Glad your daughter enjoyed the show!!!
PS—in my own mis-spent youth, I saw dozens of Grateful Dead shows at the Oakland Coliseum Arena, (which is now called the Oracle Arena)----It was SO convienent; fly into Oakland, hop on the Airbart shuttle and be at the show within 15 min. of landing in California. Afterwards, just jump on the BART to the hotel, with no rental car worries or hassles!!!
Some mighty fine times…

Further proof I just don’t know when to keep my big mouth shut.
Actually my 15-year old daughter is still into Miley and the Jonas Brothers. I’d much rather be listening to this than some of the other musical options. I got her to a Jonas Bros meet and greet last year and I have been known as the world’s best dad ever since! Nothing I like better than seeing my girl happy.

Further proof I just don’t know when to keep my big mouth shut.
I thought it was pretty fucking awesome that you called that out and I had a comeback…

That was not a joke. I had a large sierra nevada (pint) for $11- the twelve oz glasses were $8.
5oz glass of wine was $7…
c’est la vie…

Wow!!!
I have travelled all over the country (world) attending various concerts and music festivals, and beer has been a constant where ever I end up; that said, 11 dollars for a plastic (I assume) cup of beer that probably cost the venune less than 75 cents is obscene, and I hope that soon, the reality of the new economy cuts the promoters and owners of entertainment (pro sports, major musical acts, etc.) off at the knees, and that they will realise that the gravy train is off the tracks…
(I am glad you and your daughter enjoyed your time together----I am not trying to tell you how to spend your $$$—I am talking in general terms, for all overpriced entertainment events)

…what’s more fun than watching a bunch of kids have a great time?
There’s a thread around here somewhere that asks that very question.

Oh, I agree in principal, but I also know how expensive it is to run such events. I don’t know if they function the same way as movie theaters, where concessions are the only form of profit, but I pretend they are, and I buy to keep the venue successful.
I would rather buy a dvd and a six pack and a $10 t-shirt for the kiddo, but she was spellbound by the huge spectacle. Did I mention that the tix were $25.00 apiece… wait for it… and the t-shirts were $35?!?
To be expected. I remember a Metallica concert in '93 where the tix were $30 and the t-shirt was $45. But still.
Because of the way copyright law currently works for music, many artists make the majority of their income from touring rather than album sales.
