Ok I’m not sure if this actually qualifies as a “great debate” (my last one was shot down). Anyway here it goes:
Which military branch is the best, in terms of benefits, pay, jobs, and overall happiness level.
Also which is the best to go into after college graduation?
I suppose the criteria for this debate is
Best benefits (whichever ones apply)
Best pay (flat out highest)
Best job training for out of military world
Best in terms of personal happiness level (ok, so that’s an opinionated one)
And for bonuses, which produces the toughest MF’s alive?
I’m not in the military so I’m not really qualified to answer most of these, however I will say that the SEAL’s are the toughest-I base this on a discovery channel show, which I believe was entitled hell week.
I’d say it’s the pikemen that have the best training for a post-military career (raising those pikes in the face of charging cavalry directly translates to corporate comptrollership), but they tend not to make it to retirement. For the best overall benefits and pay, it’s doubtless cavalry officers. Shiny buttons, sharp sabers and equally sharp dress uniforms, horsies; there’s just no comparison to infantry or artillery.
Now, for overall enjoyment and quality of life, I’ve been told the fusilliers have it all over the musketmen, but that may just be recruitment garbage.
And the toughest MF’s alive are the cooks. They can send whole regiments to hospital with a single well-placed kettle.
Ah, but the Grennadiers get all the girls! Elite status, big strong guys, always being selected for the dangerous missions, fancy uniforms, hazard pay - They’ve got everything a proper camp-follower could want!
All the branches of the US military have the same pay structure and benefits. People get paid on 1) rank (officers make more than enlisted) and 2) time in grade (how many years you’ve been in with respect to your rank. For some positions, people can earn a bit more depending on circumstances (hazard pay) or skill level (fighter pilots).
As I was in the Air Force for 5 years (Logistics Plans Officer), I’m biased towards saying the Air Force is the best of the four major branches. The overall quality of personnel is high and the enlisted troops are generally better taken care of and respected than in the other branches. Therefore, I would say that, on average, those in the Air Force have the highest happiness level. For those who have served in the other branches, feel free to disagree with me
Any of the four major branches are about the same, especially if one is attempting to become an officer. If you’re wanting to enlist, again, I’d say the Air Force is the best. Boot camp for Air Force enlistees isn’t as rigourous as the others, and the enlisted are treated a bit better than the other branches (in general - again, based on my own experience).
Well, I do know that for some career fields in the Air Force, you could get very good training, serve your time, get out and get a good paying job in the private sector. Most of these in were highly technical career fields (instrument calibration, for example). I’m sure there are equivalencies in the other branches.
Well, I definitely know its NOT the Air Force (although the Air Force does have some elite forces). I’ll let those who know more about Army, Navy, and Marine elite forces fight it out
You’d need to distinguish between the basically trained and those who belong to a SF of their branch. In other words, who are the toughest right out of boot camp vs. what is the toughest commando outfit. It’s two completely different questions.
As to who is the toughest right out of boot camp: the Teufel Hunden. The Devil Dogs. The U.S. Marines.
