Millenium Falcon engine sound

I was just listening to mc chris’ “Fett’s Vette” and there’s a line where they play the sound of the Millenium Falcon’s engines in the background. What did they use to make that rather distinctive sound of the Falcon’s engines? One thing I noticed when I was younger is that the sound of a B-52’s engines on takeoff sounded a lot like the Falcon, but that’s when I was 14.

So how’d they do that?

If I recall correctly, it’s the sound of P-51 Mustang, with some adjustment of pitch, combined with another mechanical sound (an air compressor?) and some more tweaking.

For comparison: P-51 – Falcon.

They don’t really sound that similar, but I guess that’s why Ben Burtt makes the big bucks. :smiley:
