Milum, you're making things worse

If you don’t like America, you can just get out

I picture him as that cartoon plantationer, posting to the SDMB with one hand and sipping a mint julep with the other, declaiming, “AAAAAAHHHH, MAGNOLIA!”

His string tie and seersucker suit are, of course, given.

His opinions about virtually anything are about as informed as those of a time-warped 1850’s Southern agrarian, too.

I was thinking a younger Fob James, so that works.

Can we send you away instead? I am pretty sure that I would like America more if there were less mouth-breathers flinging shit like this.

On preview (or more accurately, review) I see by your location that you are already not here so I will amend my suggestion to that you just shut your pie-hole.

Binarydrone, I t’ink you bin whoooshed. Ja?

The word is “hippie”. Hippy is an adjective.

Although by now, a lot of aging hippies are indeed hippy.

Not the first time, probably won’t be the last. I will say that that particular sentiment is a bit of a sore spot for me. It seems of late that whenever I or someone is critical of the current administration, you can count on it being expressed.

Cite? dictionary.com doesn’t identify this difference.

The OED offers “hippy” as an alternative to the unkempt youth noun definition. No link because it’s long and unweildy and it’s a subscription site anyway.

While I appreciate the sentiment whole heartedly, I’m afraid that if I were to second it, or, worse yet if it were enacted, I’d be partially responsible for Milum gettin woody big pants.

Hey, that’s me. Make sure that you picture the julep in a silver tumbler frosted over from the carefully crafted concoction.

Hippies were not “unkempt youth”. We were politically aware ethics activists who gave you the world you have today. Okay. Maybe that one wasn’t so great, but… “hippy”? Blech. That’s Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters.

So it’s YOUR fault!

Just kidding. “unkempt youth” was from one of many definitions in the OED. It was not the first, but I used it because it was the funniest to me. If it makes you feel better, hippie is the older and much more common spelling offered in the various examples given in the OED.

Yes, thank you, Skutir. That is satisfying indeed.

You mean as in, “Hillary Clinton was a hippie in college, but now she’s hippy”?

As for Milum… not even worth pitting. Is there a more idiotic frequenter of GD? I can’t think of one.

Me! ME!

Dumb shit Milum called me a “creep” in a GD thread recently. Not even in an oblique reference. He quoted part of my post and said, “You are a creep.” You know you’re stupid when you’ve been around as long as he has and you still can’t figure out the rule that makes that a Bad Move.

Note, however, I don’t have hurt feelings from the insult, or anything like that. No, in fact, I await his final strike with something approaching giddy anticipation, and I will be proud that it was my post that in some small way contributed to his cyber-guillotining.

Nope, that’d be me, the poster seemingly incapable of deeper thoughts than driveby snottiness.
