I rented this movie the other day out of curiosity and it does deliver on the promise of delivering lots and lot of Mimi Rogers generously endowed body (I had absolutely no idea in this world her 100% natural breasts were that big) getting kneaded and oiled up and down with minimal interference from the movie’s awkward softcore porn style plot outline.
In any case I was surprised to see a “name” actress do a film like this, which is essentially a softcore erotic film akin to what an older Playmate might do on the Spice Channel to pay the rent. What was the rationale here? To show everyone how hot she was at (then) age 39? Some quick spending money? What?
Probably, but it isn’t the first time a “name” actress has done something of this quality, IIRC. Heather Graham supplied her goodies for Boogie Nights (although I wonder if you’d consider her a name actress).
As a name actress, has she ever done anything besides marry Tom Cruise before Nicole Kidman did? Just curious. I didn’t see any films in her resume at IMDB that really make me think “name actress”.
Well, I wouldn’t characterize it as a Spice Channel type of film for a couple reasons: (1) IIRC, there’s a lot of nudity, but no sex. Her relationship with her masseuse is strictly professional, and all they do together is talk (and talk and talk and talk…), and (2) it was directed by a real director: Nicolas Roeg, not some low budget hack. Plus, although Rogers is far from a nobody, I wouldn’t necessarily call her an “A”-level actress by any means. She’s probably best known as Liz Hurley’s mom in the first Austin Powers or her X-Files stint, but that hardly makes her a household name.
I don’t know…but there is a theory that sometimes you just have to get your name ‘out there’ when pickings are slim. She might have accepted the fact that she can turn into a B actress and be happy.
Well endowed actresses who are aging make great B characters and attain a decent following and earn nice $.

Also, IMDB records her as having posed in Playboy in 1993, two years before the movie came out, so it wasn’t the first time she brought out the big guns, if you know what I mean.
C’mon, Jennifer Connelly did a nude double dildo lesbian sex scene in “Requiem for a Dream” and won the Oscar next year for “A Beautiful Mind.” Nichole Kidman did a nude bondage scene in “Birthday Girl” (granted it was not explicit) and then did the lead in the highly regarded “Moulin Rouge.” Clearly, there’s no longer any kind of “outraged morality” penalty for appearing nude or playing in sexy roles. And a damn good thing, too, no reason a good actress can’t do sexy roles and serious roles as well.
I remember that spread. I remember being impressed. She had this dress with fake hands that came up and held her boobs. Pretty durn sweet.
Anyway it appears to have been a movie made for Showtime. Sounds like their type of movie. I suppse they were trying to make a classier type of the Bikini Carwash type genre.
I’ve seen this movie. It was okay, but i don’t really care for Mimi Rogers. I did think the video was a massage instruction tape until i put it in the vcr.
Evil Captor, I’ve seen clips of that dildo scene from “Requiem…” and I hate to break it to ya, but I’m pretty sure that was a body double…(and not a very good one, at that). If you wanna check it for yourself, compare the dildo scene with the scene of her looking at herself in the mirror or of her brief scene in “Inventing the Abbotts.”
I thought I had heard this story before. I quote from the book “The Late Show” – in the section where Conan O’Brien does an audition for NBC executives to show he can take over Late Night.

I dunno if her butt was body doubled during the insertion scene, but there were some face shots of her naked and from the side in the scene. Believe me, I’ve checked in slo-mo frame for frame when I made some vidcaps for an article I was writing on the increasing legitimacy of naked and sexy roles for A list actresses. In any event, it was done in that superfast quick-cutting strobe technique the indie directors think is kewl so it wasn’t like a real porn double dildo scene. Still it was a real nekkid double dildo scene, alright, and Connelly was in it.
