My physics/chem teacher told us this once, and I want to find it again. It’s a fairly long list of things that this mysterious substance is capable of doing - one of those “What am I” things. Several of the things seem very bizarre or contradictory, which make it all the more weird that the answer is water.
Anyone know what I’m talking about? Any help appreciated,
Thanks : )
This doesn’t appear to be exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s in sort of the same spirit. Academia has produced countless variations on this theme for many years.
Maybe you’d have better luck searching for it if you could remember, specifically, what one of the capabilities was - how it was phrased, etc.
I guess you mean the Dihydrogen Monoxide spiel?
It’s dihydrogen monoxide. See Snopes: http://www.snopes2.com/toxins/dhmo.htm
This seems pretty much what I was talking about - I remember it being in a more “What am I” form, rather than a glurgy email “watch out for this!” form, but it has all the right stuff in it.
Muchos gracias, Doperinos!
I’m pretty sure I remember this, too, and it’s not the DHMO thing. The only particular I remember is that it’s both a lubricant and an adhesive. Just on a hunch, it might also say that it’s both an acid and a base, but I don’t recall that one specifically.
I think you might be thinking of the following:
HIJKLMNO
Which = H to O = H20 = Water. Cute little word puzzle. Also found in riddle form, “How can you reduce (the above string) to 5 letters and not lose any of its meaning?”
