Minecraft Story Mode on Netflix

I’m working from home today, kid-sitting my 5 y.o. grandson who is sick. He likes to watch a Minecraft cartoon on Netflix that has “story mode”, where it gives you story options that you can select with the remote. We have watched this show countless times in the past, but when I try to bring it up today, I get a short video telling me that my device is not compatible with story mode, even though it’s the same device we’ve always watched it on. (I stream Netflix through an app on my Sony Blu-ray player.)

I found some Roblox play-through videos on YouTube for him to watch, but I’m curious what’s up with “story mode” thing on Netflix. Has anybody else with kids run into this problem? Any idea how to fix it?

(FWIW, Story Mode seems to work OK on the Netflix app on my phone. Unfortunately I need my phone while I’m working so I can’t let him watch it there.)

It may simply be that the netflix client that is baked into that specific player is ‘Out of Date’ - I’ve had that happen just for watching normal netflix shows.

So basically, I either need to wait for an updated Netflix app, or get a new TV or Blu-ray player? Oh well.

In our case - it was solved by a new $50 4k blueray player. That’s the issue with built in apps - they have an expiry if they can’t be updated.

Yeah, that’s the problem. I ran the software update function on the Blu-ray player, and it said it was up to date. But I don’t know if that includes the apps for various streaming sources, or if it’s just the software for the player itself.

I’ve seen a few apps disappear from the main screen over the years – Hulu, for instance – and other apps pop up to take their place, so I assume Sony has the ability to push new apps when they want. But I would guess that Netflix has to provide an updated app first, and that’s probably not going to happen.

It might be worth an email to Netflix customer service and see what they have to say about this.

There’s also the opposite possibility–they updated the app and now it doesn’t work. I know I’ve lost features in updates in apps on my phone, and so just went back to older versions.

I remember that an older version of Netflix let me download videos, while the newer one blocked my phone. (Though now the newest one does work.)
