Mini-Mid-Life Crisis

I’ve hit mid-life, providing I die on my 70th birthday (I’ll help with the math - I’m 35). Unfortunately, I find myself in the position of not being able to succumb to the typical mid-life crisis type behaviors. I can’t afford a Porsche. I have a full head of hair, so I don’t need plugs or a really bad comb-over. I love my wife too much to entertain the idea of an affair.

So, my mid-life crisis thingie - I bought a skateboard.

I haven’t been on one of these things since I was fresh out of my teens, but what with the X-Games, and THPS on the Playstation, and the fact that Tony Hawk is now my personal hero, I felt I had to get one.

Am I crazy? Will I end up in the emergency room? Does anyone know how to pull off an ollie?

Well, your last name IS Batty…

I sincerely believe that if a person really puts their heart and soul into achieving a goal, they will achieve that goal. Go for it.

Is that the “O” word?

IMHO, you are not crazy.

Mid-life crises happen when you assess your life goals against a perceived time line and go, “oh s–” If you derive fun from riding a skateboard, go for it. Who really cares what anyone else thinks?

Funny that you posted this today. Yesterday I was out at my mom’s house where I grew up, and I came across my old skateboard in a corner of the garage. Of course, I had to take it for a spin in the driveway. I was relieved that I could still ride the damned thing without falling on my face.

I’d still like to think that I can buy myself a Porsche when my mid-life crisis eventually hits, though…
