I’m a fairly new mini painter (25 mm fantasy figures), I need help with my new large mini. I have Gauth the Dragon made by Reaper minis. I have pinned his wings (probably a half lb. each) but they are still loose. I attached it with super-glue, is there a better adhesive to do this?
Since you mention pinning I’m assuming the model is made of the lead-free stuff. (Us old-timers still call it lead). Did you use enough glue? If you did and it’s still loose you may want to get a bottle of Zap Kicker. It’s a spray solution that instantly cures the glue and creates a stronger bond. If that doesn’t work I would suggest using a 2-part epoxy in addition to the pinning. You can get epoxy with a 5 minute drying time and if you use a sufficient amount it will hold.
Try epoxy. I have found that super-glue joints tend to be somewhat brittle.
The disadvantage of epoxy is that you have to find some way to brace the pieces for several hours while it sets but if you have pinned them it should be ok.
Heh. No answer for 9 hours then a simulpost.
I’d drill and pin – using steel straight pins – and then use two-part five-minute epoxy. LOTS of it.
You have to be very careful with the stuff, because it’s sloppy and gooey, but once it’s set up (about ten minutes, actually, regardless of what the box says), it’s like friggin’ concrete. HIGHLY recommended for dragon wings and large heavy parts of all kinds.
