Minor gloat - Cheney doesn't get his way

I heard about this on the radio Sunday, and thought I’d share This story

For those who don’t feel like clicking the link, up until the day before Obama got sworn in a president, Cheney lobbied Bush to give “Scooter” Libby a full pardon, and is royally pissed off that Bush refused. Read the story in the link if you can, it’s kind of amusing.

I heard that, too. And was probably more pleased than I should have been that Cheney didn’t get his way and that Libby didn’t get his pardon. I do have to feel a little sorry for Libby–although I don’t recall enough of the details to know why I once thought that being pardoned by Bush on his way out was an appropriate end to the saga.

I can’t think of any reason why pardoning him would be a good thing.

And this is really making me wish I had the power to read minds. I mean, first, considering all the things that Bush has done, he respects the jury’s decision, regarding Libby? Really?

Second, Cheney is actually being loyal to Libby? Most people like Cheney disassociate themselves with somebody who takes the fall for them.

Frankly, this is somewhat of a head-scratcher for me.

Sure, Dick. We’ll pardon Libby, if you agree to take his place in prison for his original sentence length.

IIRC Cheney’s name was mentioned as possibly being the one that organized the leak, I would think that if Libby was not pardoned that then Libby would eventually come up with the goods that he has on Cheney.

If this is correct and Bush had no direct connection with the leak, then I think Bush was just being his typical vengeful self with staff members that embarrassed him. Even an incurious mind like Bush would be revolted by what he saw but for unity’s sake he still had to throw a bone at Libby.

It’s all for show. If Bush respected the jury’s decision, he wouldn’t have commuted his sentence. They are all a bunch of assholes of historical proportions.

Yeah, that’s the only thing I can come up with, “You don’t rat me out, and in return I’ll lobby Bush day and night to get you a full pardon.”

I guess Cheney just didn’t try hard enough. If I were Libby, I’d be miffed. To get even, I would write a tell-all book.

A book about Cheney?? Dude, the guy’s got a man-sized safe. If I were Libby, no way would I touch that one.

Who knew that Bush could stand up to Cheney? Maybe he was tired of being pushed around and this was his parting middle-finger-up to Cheney.

Bummer about Socks dying, BTW (second story in that link) although 20 is a good long life for a cat.

Yeah, 20 is a long time for a cat.

As for Libby, I don’t think he’ll write a tell all book. After all, he didn’t have to go to jail, and besides, Cheney can shoot you in the face and make YOU apologize.

It’s a shame Bush didn’t say no to Cheney when he and Donald Rumsfeld brought up the idea that they should go to war with Iraq.
