Minority Report question *spoilers*

I recently watched Minority Report on video. Good movie, good sfx, excellent plot. I just have one (probably really stupid) question:

From what the pre-cog said, I understood Sean to still be alive somewhere. I don’t think it was ever made clear who actually took Sean at the pool that day, and for what purpose. Did this tie in with the plot in any significant way? Anyone help with this?

I know the answer is probably staring me in the face, but to me this just seemed like a loose end that was never explained.

The movie’s plot is a bit shakier than that of the excellent short story it’s based on, so if you like the movie, you should definitely read the original story - Minority Report by Philip K. Dick. It’s in a few collections, so it’s pretty easy to find.

That said, the movie itself tends to be needlessly confusing; though it’s never stressed, pretty much everyone involved assumes Sean is dead by this time. The identity of his actual kidnapper is left unknown (it has to be, for the Crow frame-up to have worked), and nothing within the plot really mandates that the guy be found by the end of the movie. He was a stranger, and he got away with it.

The precog’s speech at the end tied in to the concept of people having alternate futures. Perhaps she wanted to illustrate to the Andertons just how powerful their love was. She saw an alternate future for Sean - a future where he grew up in this loving home - and she shared it.

Thanks, I will look out for it.

Of course, the Crow setup wouldn’t have worked if we knew who took Sean… :slap:

Thanks for the explanation, it is clearer now!

D’oh! That should have been :smack: not :slap: !
