Now, wait a gosh-darned second. I took this out of GD and into BBQ and ATMB so that my concerns could be addressed in an appropriate forum and not obfuscate the GD thread. I want to know exactly and precisely what is and is not out-of-bounds, so I opened an ATMB thread. I felt unjustly treated, so I opened a Pit thread. When both of those matters have been fully addressed, I will indeed let things go, and I’ll be quite happy to do so. Hell, I’ll even personally ask the mods to close the threads. As a matter of fact, to prove that I’m after something substantive here and not just trying to be a gadfly, I promise to ask the mods to close the threads by no later than midnight of this Monday, after which point I will unsubscribe to both threads and have nothing more to say on the matters.
However, if you’re at all concerned about having to compromise the integrity of your messages for the sake of avoiding censure, then I will ask you to kindly not be so dismissive.
Actually you weren’t suppose to be all that insulted by what I said. Personally I don’t think you’re deserving of a full blown flame so I didn’t send one your way. I think you’ve got some valid points but sometimes you come off sounding like a jerk. By the way I’m impressed that you use words like vapid, retort, crude, and intellect. It must have taken many long hours with a thesaurus for you to compose your reply.
struct: In GD, you may insult the post (if you must be insulting), not the poster. You may say a post is stupid, or an argument is ridiculous, or that a poster doesn’t comprehend something. You may NOT call someone stupid, an asshole, a pig-fucker, a jackass. You may NOT say “if this was the Pit, I’d call you an idiot.” You may NOT say “anyone who believes [what a poster appears to believe] is a drooling moron.” You may NOT say “any poster whose name begins with m and ends with n is a fuckhead.” You may NOT try to find cutesy ways to say people are stupid or call them nasty names.
Even the “it’s OK to insult the post” rule has some limitations; someone who has posts like, “ah, another effluvia of the bilious
ooze that vomits from your mouth,” would probably get a warning, particuarly if that sort of comment was common.
Calling someone “thick-skulled” is an insult. Direct personal insuts are not allowed in GD. I have confidence that the GDers are capable of making powerful arguments without having to call each other names.
struct, dear, get some sleep. Put away the dictionary and thesaurus, lie down in your bed, curl up, and sleep. You’re fighting a lost cause here, and you’re making an ass of yourself.
Until a mod or admin comes in here to clear everything up (which will happen soon, believe me), why don’t you adhere to the following rule in GD:
If there’s any doubt over whether what you’re saying consists of a personal insult, rephrase it.
It’s that simple, and rules like that help keep GD civil and interesting. Come now, did Hsün Tzu ever call Mencius an idiot? If he had, would we have taken him seriously?

I’m sad to say that my poor brain is chock full of information ranging from the trivial to the profound, including a vocabulary of annoying length, breadth and depth. I rarely have to resort to utilizing a thesaurus, and I spent minutes, not hours, in the composition. I’m not being at all sarcastic – I truly think my smarts are a curse. Rather than being a boon, they just seem to get me into trouble more often than not. Your reaction to my verbosity is not uncommon; the average person does tend to react with skepticism and disdain. I went through a period in my adolescence where in an attempt to fit in I constantly tried to limit myself to words of two syllables or less, but I gave up the ghost when I found that I just couldn’t do it. I feel thrice cursed really: I’m not one to just “go with the flow” but feel obligated to put the status quo under a microscope; I have the means, motive and opportunity to do so; and I engage in debate not as an academic exercise but out of true passion. I’m not bragging: I hate that this is so, I really do! Life would be so much easier if I didn’t comprehend, didn’t have the capacity to comprehend, and didn’t care anyway… but enough self-loathing.
Now that the mod has chimed in, I am satisfied that my questions have been addressed and answered, although I continue to maintain that I was slapped with a “chintzy foul” and have gone on record to that effect. As promised, I am unsubscribing from this thread and giving my blessing to the moderator to close the thread.
Oh and as a parting retort, I will inform Angel OTL that I have just woken up, but have not yet had my coffee. I wouldn’t waste any of my post-coffee energy on this – I reserve it for work, school, family, and Great Debates.
Struct, two threads on essentially the same topic posted in separate forums is called “crossposting” and isn’t welcome here. In the future, please choose one forum and let a mod move the thread if you’ve chosen wrongly.

I was willing to take the high road and let your insult slide in the other thread; I viewed it as a pathetic attempt at wit playing on the fact that deposed President Zaphod Beeblebrox has two heads, hence thick skulls (a comment even less witty than your “use the quote button, Luke” crack) You are not nearly as clever as you seem to think yourself to be, and it’s kind of pathetic to read some of your attempts at humor. Hell, they are even worse than mine - and that’s saying something.
But I am glad that Minty Green and Gaudere called you out on the break with acceped decorum. You were being an ass. Why is that so hard to understand?

Seems very clear to me that this is the instigation of personal attacks by implying that struct’s cognitive abilities warranted your pity. And you were definitely not being funny.

OK fair enough, I am not above reproach in that thread, but I did not “hide behind my Momma’s skirts”, asshole. I said, rather strongly, that I would not respond to any further comments regarding wring’s hyperbole and whether it was or was not tasteless or relevant. (yes, I know, I brought that up to begin with). When, struct responded with a personal attack, I ignored it because I had already promised that I would not respond further. In short, I did exactly what I said I would.
For the record, I did not report him to a moderator either. I plain and simply didn’t care enough.

I apologize for breaking my promise that I wouldn’t post anything more in this thread, and I swear that this it. However, Mr. Olsen, I feel entitled to say in my defense that I brought up two separate topics in the two respective forums. Topic #1, the recriminations against minty green and Gaudere, was posted to the Pit. Topic #2, the request for clarification on impermissable content, was posted to ABTM and then moved to the Pit. Although both threads were prompted by the same impetus, they were intended to be separate in nature.
I also wish to clarify that I did not intend my request for thread closure to be a “hit and run” tactic. If anyone else has anything to add to this thread, please feel free to do so, but I’m done posting anything further on the subject. Once everyone else is done, I hope that the thread will be closed.

I have reported both of these posts to the moderator. However, I would bet dollars to donuts that the moderator won’t take any action against the poster of these messages, since the poster of those messages was a moderator: none other than Gaudere herself/himself. To Gaudere’s credit, I had to comb through a few dozen well-written and reasonable posts to find those two rants, leading me to believe that he/she is ordinarily a reasonable person. Nevertheless, I admonish her/him to remove the plank from her/his own eye before plucking the mote from mine.
Oh, and minty green? As long as I’m in the pit, at liberty to cast personal aspersions, and armed with reference materials, may I suggest that you look up the definition of the word “pharisaism”? struct: The first post was at worst borderline. “You have put your brain in a box” means “you have stopped thinking about your ideas” rather than “you are stupid”. “You are acting like a twit” is not a direct insult, and not an indirect one to the level to require a warning. The last post was directed purely at Lolo’s argument. And for some context, both those posts were a last-ditch attempt to get Lolo to shape up because he was in immediate danger of being banned. And in fact, Lolo did not listen to me, or any other of the posters who tried to get him to see where he was being a jerk, and was banned. Now, are we done here, or are you going to continue throwing yourself on your sword?
