mIRC Trouble

Recently, every time I try to connect to mIRC, I get the error message -Unable to connect (Can’t assign requested address)-. Does anyone know what this means or how to resolve this problem? I have not had any trouble connecting until about five or six days ago. Thanks for any input.

P.S. - This is the error I get while trying to connect to DALnet (my preferred sever). When I try to connect to EFnet, I get the error -Unable to resolve server-.

I’m much more familiar with EFnet, than DALnet, and on EFnet -Unable to resolve server- means that it cannot connect to any of the servers you are trying to connect to.
Try and find a list of working servers on the web somewhere. I know there used to be a regularly updated one for EFnet somewhere many moons ago.
If nothing seems to be working, you can always resort to uninstalling mIRC, redownloading (latest version), and reinstalling.

Oooh! another thought…Have the proxy settings on your computer changed?

Just some thoughts and ideas…

DALnet has been under DOS attack for the past several weeks. Try connecting to a specific server instead of irc.dal.net, and keep trying different ones until you get on. I’ve had good luck with kernel-c.dal.net.

BTW, you aren’t connecting to mIRC, you’re connecting to IRC. mIRC is just one program you can use, like how you can connect to web sites with either Internet Explorer, Netscape, or Opera.
