A senior Pentagon official said Wednesday no information exists to support an article in the London Daily Mirror that former Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf is in U.S. custody. U.S. military authorities in Baghdad said any comment about al-Sahaf’s possible capture would have to come from the Pentagon because he is not on the U.S. list of most-wanted Iraqis. U.S. civil administrator L. Paul Bremer said he had no confirmation of any arrest. Al-Sahaf became well-known for his denials that coalition forces were making progress against Iraqi forces during the war. He was one of the last Iraqi officials to abandon his government post.
