Misery Q (Spoilers)

Don’t you think making Annie Wilkes a serial killer detracts from the theme of fandom gone amuck??

“I’m your number one fan!!”…well, you’re also a crazy murderer so that kind of detracts from things.

Seems like she was a serial killer that had a wonderful piece of luck.

Are you suggesting he should have been kidnapped and held prisoner by a non-crazy fan?

FTR: Rob Reiner has stated that the movie character was based on Genene Jones – personally, after reading that article, the depiction doesn’t detract but rather adds to her nuttery.

It’s been a very long time since I read the novel so I’d forgotten that the literary version had also killed several hospital patients, likely out of a misguided attempt to end suffering. I’ve read about enough real-life versions of that mentality.

I took her murderous past as a form of Munchausen by proxy. She liked the attention that was caused by the death of the babies she killed. She would get caught, but the hospitals would just fire her rather than prosecute. At least that’s how I remember it.

She also burned down her neighbor’s house, killing the kids, when she was young.

I think im operating from the wrong premise. OR King just absolutely didn’t want there to be any sympathy for Annie at all.

You take out the serial killer aspect and she’s a very twisted fan who will do anything to protect ‘her precious’. But there’s a little room for sympathy.

In a nutshell…as written and in the movie theres {–} that much room for sympathy, if she wasnt a serial killer…there’d be {-----} that much room. In fact, if she wasnt a killer already, we couldnt be 100 pct sure she intended to kill Paul at the end.

By the way, im sure everyone knows but just in case…this was written BEFORE Kings accident.

Yeah, well… she was right to feel cheated. Rocket Man never got out of the cockadoodie car!

There is a certain panache in running over a state trooper’s head with a lawnmower.
