Misheard lyrics

Okay, I’m sure there are not a lot of people here who know about Bollywood movies, but my sister-in-law just told me this story I just had to share –

It seems when she was in school in India, a bunch of the big girls taught a little girl to sing a song from “Qurbani,” a very popular movie from 1979 –

For those of you who don’t know, the Bombay film industry pumps out hundreds of movies every year, far more than Hollywood does. Almost all of these movies are romantic musicals with a little bit of everything thrown in – action, adventure, comedy, tragedy, whatever. Typically, the songs are written and recorded first (the soundtrack album often being released far in advance of the movie) and then the song-and-dance sequences are filmed and then some kind of story is constructed to fill in the gaps.

Anyway, the actual words of the song were –

Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye
To Baat Ban Jaaye …

“Should someone come into my life then something will happen …”

What they taught their younger classmate was

“Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindagi Mein Aaye
To Baap Ban Jaaye …”

“Should someone come into my life then …
he will become a father” !

 Ha!

I’m eager to hear any other misheard lyrics stories - and maybe someone can explain “Blinded by the Light” by Manfred Mann.
