Miss Atheiest Creates a Unitarian!

UU Poster Boy, checking in…

Unitarians believed in one God. Universalists believed everyone would be saved. Seperately, they were wholly Christian denominations. When they two joined and created Unitarian Universalism, they had both diverged from their Judeo-Christian roots to form a more inclusive, humanistic scope that included Christianity but was no longer exclusively Christian. I’ve never seen “UU Christian” as a contradiction ever, although it is, indeed, rare to meet them these days. There are, however, still many individual congregations that are still very heavily Christian-influenced (many of the northeastern churches, for example); equally, there are many that have all but token Christian influences (including one all-Pagan church in Texas, IIRC, that is still a UU affiliated church).

FTR, I was a UU church choir director for 7 years, and served on both local and regional gay and lesbian concerns committees, Welcoming Congregations, and music organizations.

(Oh, and hi, hedra! Long time no see!)
