Missing Doctor Who episodes found.

I hope they aren’t subtitled in Ethiopian. I guess subtitles could be digitally masked off?

Looking forward to seeing which episodes were recovered.

I read once that several “lost” films have been found in New Zealand. Apparently back in the day when movies were the dominant entertainment and reels of film were the medium, movies were physically shipped from one location to another. A movie might be shot in America and then play in the big cities on the East coast. Then it would be sent to the smaller cities and then shipped to theatres in the south and mid-west before finally ending up on the west coast. Having wrung all it could out the American market, the movie would then be shipped north and played in theatres across Canada. When it got to Newfoundland, it would be shipped across the Atlantic to Britain. After that it would be shipped around the British Empire, ending up in the remotest outposts - Australia and ultimately, New Zealand. New Zealand was basically the last place you’d show a movie - after that, there was no place left to ship it to for more showings. And because the studios didn’t have any reason to pay to have a movie sent back, the reels got dumped. In many cases, that was the literal end for the movie as it was destroyed. But some movies were just thrown into old warehouses and storage rooms and forgotten.

According to this, it is pretty much all of the missing first and second doctor episodes from Ethiopia.

The Daily Mirror is not noted for its dedication to accuracy.

It is known that many of the lost episodes were never sold to Ethiopia in the first place. It is therefore virtually impossible to find them there. In fact, I’ve seen an analysis that shows the maximum possible recovery from Ethiopia is about 25 missing episodes.

Would they necessarily have to have been sold directly to Ethiopia?

Message from someone actually at the press conference.

He’s forbidden to reveal until just after midnight UK time. But its something pretty amazing, apparently.

I’m starting Doctor Who from the reboot movie and am now at Eccleston Ep. 5.

I really hope that with this new discovery I “have” to go back and start with the first Doctor if you know what I mean.

Can you summarize anything interesting in that message? I’m timing out trying to get to that link.

The message is essentially “It was worth the wait.”

Looks like the embargo has been broken:

Summary: 9 new episodes, The Enemy Of The World is now complete, and The Web Of Fear is now only missing episode 3. Not bad at all.

The Northern Echo have taken the page down now :o

Thanks. I got a screen print of the article in evernote before they took it down I suppose reprinting here wouldn’t go over well.

For the record, I do not care if there are subtitles. I’m guessing a lot of fans would consider subtitles to be a historical artifact.

Now available for download from iTunes, all of *Enemy *and Web 12 episodes @ $1.99 each.

That’s 10 new episodes. It turns out that Web 3 is available after all.

Thank Og the BBC has finally figured out there is not only a world-wide audience for Who, but that same audience is willing to pay a reasonable rate for it.

Correction - people are saying that Web 3 is a reconstruction, consisting of stills and soundtrack.

Shame, really. Ep 3 is Lethbri8dge-Stewart’s debut.

Brilliant stuff:

No relation.

I’m now imagining a bunch of Nigerians in the 1960s watching Dr Who mashing up Yetis on some ropey black and white box.

Tip for watching new Who: Watch 1 per day.

It was created with the intention that there should be a cliffhanger between episodes. If you watch them all at once, you’re gonna lose some of the impact.

That’s what I intend to do. How about you?
