Missing Soccer Team Found Alive in Cave

That sounds more plausible. The idea seems a bit over the top but my knowledge of flexible micro cave-subs is a bit thin.

How would you categorize the statement “stick it where it hurts”?

Maybe you say that type of thing regularly to people so it doesn’t seem very bad.

In the world I live in, that is a hostile statement that wouldn’t be allowed at work, home or pretty much any interaction with people other than towards someone that is behaving or speaking very aggressively towards me or family member.

I just noticed this:

And that “attack” was: “nano is 100% BS”
This doesn’t seem very consistent:
“Stick it where it hurts” - that’s not an attack
“Nano is 100% BS” - that IS an attack

Why didn’t you quote what he actually said to her? He was clearly stating that he considered her full of shit.

Maybe you say that type of thing regularly to people so it doesn’t seem very bad.

ABC has also posted it on YouTube where it does not seem to be region-locked.

I consider BOTH of those items an attack.

The point is that Banquet Bear only considers the milder “nano is BS” an attack while thinking that “stick it where it hurts” is not an attack.

Fair enough, I agree with you on that point. Where I disagree is that I think Unsworth was perfectly justified in his mild attack on Musk, and Musk was not justified in his attack on Unsworth.

I also disagree on the relative “mildness” of the attacks. Unsworth was frustrated and making a comment to a journalist; he wasn’t tweeting directly at Musk to “stick it where it hurts.” Musk on the other hand was tweeting directly at the people to accuse them of being a bullshitter and “pedo”. That’s a big difference.

With the boys and coach successfully rescued, it’s easy to forget how touch-and-go the situation was there for a while. One of the rescuers died, the pumps failed only hours after the last people were out, and heavy rains were on the way. The unnecessary distraction caused by Musk thankfully didn’t result in harm, but when constant focus is needed and minutes count, it easily could have. And if it did, we’d all be saying much worse things about Musk than where he should stick his sub. He shouldn’t be immune from forceful criticism because things worked out.

OK, RaftPeople. We get it, we get it.

I was responding to TroutMan and correcting a miscommunication between myself and him.

But I am glad you get it also.

Also dragging the thread off topic, IMO. But you keep pounding us over the head with your opinion until everyone agrees with you.

Eh, the topic of the thread has been rescued. It’s either this or we start arguing about the Christian vs atheist versions of the movie being made.

We could talk about how odd it is that so many of us were so interested in this story and so much effort was extended by so many people in the rescue of these boys, some of who are stateless (from Wikipedia, “they are from tribes in an area that extends across Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and China, where borders have changed and people do not have passports”). Meanwhile, here in the US, children the same age and younger who are seeking a safer life are being jailed, and millions more are trying to get to safety in Europe.

I read that the rescuers and Seals left it to the coach and team to decide who went out first. And that the four boys selected were chosen because they lived furthest away, thinking they’d all be riding their bikes home, and they’d need a head start!

Pretty amusing if it’s true!

…are you still going?

Did Unsworth kill your dog or something? Don’t you want to talk about the rescued kids or something?

I’d categorize it as “an answer to the question.”

Maybe I do. Maybe I don’t. You will never know.

What a boring life you must lead. With all due respect. Best you keep out of the pit. Context is everything. If someone in my family said this to a billionaire I’d have a good laugh with them. If one of my employees said this to Musk in exactly these circumstances I’d back that employee 100%. Alt-right trolls are emboldened now. They got Jessica Price fired. They got James Gunn fired today. We live in a world now where every inch of your private life and every statement that you make can get signal-boosted and taken out of context. So your damn right I’d stick up for my employee if they did something like this in exactly the same circumstances.

Context is everything. It can’t be ignored. And in this case you are ignoring it completely.

Context, of course, is everything.

And quoting a single sentence without the surrounding context completely misses the point.

Were the boys unconscious when they were taken out?

I’ve heard they were “sedated”, but I don’t know what that meant.

(And I think Musk was trying to be helpful. He may also be self-aggrandizing, but trying to help and just getting in the way is just normal and human).

They were sedated so they would not panic. To do so would likely have killed them and their diver escorts. I saw one of the elite divers interviewed and he said, an adult would likely panic, so it was a very necessary precaution. It was not a short dip, it was hours of frightening travel through black water and darkness. Some of the boys were moving when extracted, so not entirely knocked out, but certainly close to it I should expect. They were medically monitored 4 times during the journey out. And the divers surfaced and checked on them every forty minutes in addition.

If a bump against a rock, or a kid squirming, had shifted the face mask, broken the seal, it meant death instantly. Sedating them was the right call. The Australian government sought and received diplomatic immunity for the Doctor administering the drugs. But he was by profession an anesthesia expert, and seems to have been the right guy, in the right place, at the right time.

The 12th member is not Buddhist.

The former had a media-compelling and imagination-grabbing story, the latter did not.
Not saying it’s right. But that’s why it was/is.

IIRC a Thai friend shared a post of someone who knew the kids, saying how, swimming was one of the activities the group enjoyed doing together, and it had photos of tbem doing just that.
Again I should underscore how awful is the quality if news reporting from Thailand, many times it doesn’t go further than presenting speculation and stereotypes (i. e. Thais can’t swim) as facts.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Nova has an excellent doc on the rescue.
