Had to share this bizarre story - a bar in Dawson City is missing a toe because a customer swallowed it.

I found a link to the story on another site
http://www.vagabondish.com/man-intentionally-eats-bars-famous-human-toe/:
The Sourtoe cocktail is a Yukon bar’s claim to fame, consisting of a shot of whiskey with a bonafide pickled human toe in it. The Downtown Hotel in Dawson City reuses the toe from drink to drink, so it was somewhat of a loss to the establishment when a man ordered the drink and consumed it toe and all.
The patron willingly paid the $500 penalty for eating the toe and apparently this is the first time the toe has been swallowed on purpose. Eight other toes have gone missing in the past, but those instances were unintentional. The man is said to have been on his way out of town and decided to go out with a bang and blow the money he’s received back on his damage deposit for the privilege of having the full Sourtoe cocktail experience.
The bar’s signature drink is still available, with another toe that was kept on hand in reserve, however the fine for not returning the toe has been raised fivefold.

I found video of the incident
Warning not for the faint hearted
Odd place for a toe. Something must be afoot.

Oh yes, we were discussing that in the CanaDoper thread.
arches eyebrow at that one
Just when you think people can’t get any dumber you learn of a bar serving shots with a freakin’ toe in it. And morons actually buy and consume alcohol served in such a manner. What a bunch of f-in’ dumb asses.
Where the hell is this bar acquiring all these severed toes? And how the hell is this even permitted to go on?

Nope, they are generally donated from folks who lost their toes to frostbite.
96.1 The Eagle, WODZ-FM Radio, a Townsquare Media station, plays the best classic hits music in Utica, New York.
The Downtown, a Coast Hotel in downtown Dawson City welcomes pets and includes a free airport shuttle, free wi-fi, a gift shop and an on-site restaurant.
How is it legal to serve a drink with a human toe in it?
This is my question as well.
My guess:
Laws regarding proper disposal of human remains are state, not federal.
Alaska, being as how many parts are far from neat, tidy facilities, has no such laws - requiring people to dig a hole in Arctic ice is really a dumb idea, so there are no state laws.
Notice the toe was black (not negroid, black) - that was frostbitten in all probability.
Such things are probably readily available in Dawson AK.

Actually, Dawson City is in Canada. Cite.
…was it in a toe-away zone?
