Missing WMD's used in Bush comedy routine

I almost fell off my chair watching Bush use the missing WMD’s in Iraq as comic relief in his speech to the Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Thursday. I’m surprised no one here has brought this up yet!

Nearly 600 Americans dead and over 4000 wounded, many thousands of Iraqi’s dead or wounded on top of the dead and wounded from a number of other countries and Prez Bush clowns around making a joke of the whole justification used to start the war??? This has to rate as one of the biggest faux pas that Bush has ever made. His joking on not finding WMD’s was disrespectful to the people who have lost their lives or been disabled in this war, disrespectful to America and disrespectful to the world.

I’m beginning to think that Kerry doesn’t have to do much of anything except to just sit back and watch this administration self-destruct.

Chris Matthews on Hardball was visibly pissed off at Bush. Here’s the transcript:

What thinks you?

I consider myself a person who is not easily offended, in fact i believe we as a society are overly offended because we impose our values on each other when the fact is everyone has their own set of vaules. This gets to me though…while i do find it funny to see Bush point out he’s an idiot in no uncertain terms, the fact is our own have died on one man’s wild goose chase…and for the president himself to be so publicly lighthearted about it is somewhat unsettling.

Yep, every time Bush opens his mouth he looks like an arrogant fool. It’s not gaining him any support abroad, that’s for sure. It has been discussed in this pit thread.

The prime minister of Poland after most of his cabinet resigned has just announced his resignation effective May2. This after declaring he was disgusted at having been mislead about the reasons for the war. Let’s see if whoever replaces him feels like announcing to the Polish people that he finds Bush to be a funny guy with whom he wishes to be friends with. “Yeah, he lied to us and we are disappointed. Yeah, now he’s making jokes about it. But hey, the guy has a sense of humor and he’ll buy you a beer if you ask nicely.”

I, too, am not easily offended. This, however, crossed the line. Thousands of people died and billions of dollars wasted because either the intellligence was bad, or it was misread, or he just plain chose to ignore the facts. Now it’s all a big joke. If Bush apologizes, we can get back to the issues. I hope he does so.

I disagree with most of his positions on the issues. However, I always thought he was a decent person. This latest incident is unbelievable. He lands on the aircraft carrier for his photo-op and tries to use 9-11 as a tool. Now he is joking about a matter that is not at all funny. He is incompetent and clueless. I hope he is defeated in November.

Were the US indeed a meritocracy, Bush would now, at this very moment, be uttering the words, “Would you like fries with that?”

But as our nation is not a place where rich fools are treated as fools, we have a man who started a useless war based on piss-poor intelligence making jokes about the oh-so-serious faux reason for starting that war in the first place.

Keep in mind, however, that Bush pronounces “faux pas” as folks pass.

That is, folks pass on by, not caring why what happened happened. Will folks care enough in November. I hope so.

Put a fool in his place: Bush straight into the trash can of history.

IMHO, that won’t work anymore. Clarke’s eloquent apology for 9/11 and his subsequent indictment of the admin’s Iraq obsession will make any Bush mea culpa look like “me toism”, and that would weaken the president.

Why, oh why, hasn’t the Kerry campaign said anything about this? It seems like they’ve been sleepwalking since wrapping up the nomination earlier this month. Where are they?

Because of a basic rule of campaigning: When your opponent is shooting himself in the foot, don’t interfere.

Why do you assume that they haven’t said anything? Try Drudge for their response, from last Thurday.

It serves Kerry much better to prevent this from being dismissable as partisan sniping (although the GOP partisans are certainly trying their best to portray it that way, bless their little hearts). By Kerry’s keeping out of the public eye, the issue looks more like Bush vs. Truth or even Bush vs. We the People. That political damage to Bush is deeper and permanent.

Actually, Kerry has said something about it. I saw it in the paper on last Saturday, I think. Just a short statement, no major harassing of Bush.

I believ it was Napolean who said, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake,” except he said it in French.

So IOW, the press release by the Kerry for President campaign that I linked to was an example of “GOP partisans” at work? That vast rightwing conspiracy is even more vast than one might have supposed.
