I hadn’t heard of this case. I remember hearing about a woman who was kept in a box under a bed several years ago, and I thought this might be the same woman. But Colleen Stan was imprisoned between 1977 and 1984, and her kidnapper is still in prison.
Interesting. I’ll be in Clinton, MO next month. I’ll have to ask the locals about it.
I live about 20 minutes from Clinton. My neighbor texted me this morning to advise me to be on the lookout. I’d never heard about the box girl.
I don’t understand the story. The suspect, her boyfriend Horn, is a registered sex offender for several other incidents including kidnapping, and has served 10 years in Federal prison.
If she escaped from the box three weeks ago, and he was charged for that…
How in the name of anything is he at large? This is the South, they aggressively lock up sex offenders and people they think might be sex offenders. Why was this one let go?
Infuriating.
My understanding is that Horn fled between the time that Sutton escaped and the time police went to his home to investigate. I’m not sure Horn was ever in police custody.
They’ve been looking for Horn for about three weeks now, ever since she escaped from the house in Sedalia. He was never in custody after the original incident.
Sedalia police had offered to keep her in a safe location but she opted to stay with relatives in Clinton instead. Horn was obviously keeping tabs on her while on the run and knew where to find her.
I hope they nail that sick sonofabitch.
Be careful which local you ask.
Aaand… they got him.

Good.
I thought you couldn’t be “charged with” something unless you were arraigned, i.e., in custody. Am I wrong? Before they have you, you may be wanted for a crime, but the article said “charged.”
