Best thing to do to address the subject of this thread, is to look up and get a thorough sense of the concept of IDIOMS and IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS.
Idioms, and how relatively pervasive they are in most languages, are precisely why most automated translations fail. Essentially, truly reliable auto-translators wont be possible until a far greater computational power and A.I. software is created than we can currently bring to bear.
Side note: the story about the British commander saying “My Bad” in Latin, is apparently not really true. Someone publishing a sort of Political Cartoon about the episode, made up the “clever” one word reply.
Another minor side note: I suggest you watch a very old film, called “Fail Safe,” for a scene about translating. While preparing to talk to the Soviet Premier, the President talks to his official Russian translator, about how what he wants isn’t just the words translated, but as much of the other meanings and implications that the choice of words used, might include. It’s a good overall hint, about the every day challenges of pretty much any kind of translating.
