The first thing Mitch’s spokespeople did was lie about what happened, saying that he got dizzy and stepped away from the podium.
So, if he does have to resign because of his health, and the governor must appoint a Republican replacement, that person won’t inherit any of McConnell’s seniority, won’t be able to employ the power the Turtle had accumulated.
Which is why they are undoubtedly going to Weekend-at-Bernie’s this incident for the remainder of his term.

Assuming they run in the 2024 special election as the incumbent and wins they would have seniority over all of those new Senators and would be a shoo-in for the 2026 regular election.

I have absolutely no love for McConnell, but today’s … TIA … seizure … whatever it was … was painful to watch.
I hope he’s okay, and that he takes this opportunity to go out to pasture.
I am hard pressed to think of a single politician who has done more harm to the US than Mitch McConnell (maybe Newt Gingrich). I very much look forward to him getting out of congress.
WaB-ing Feinstein seems like a heavy lift for the Dems. I don’t think it’s possible for the GOP to do it with someone of McConnell’s political rotundity.

If Biden was to freeze up like that, I’d say it’s time to step aside. I’m no doctor but that did not look like a momentary lapse of memory.

The only benefit is much of the power in congress runs on seniority. A new guy will take years to get where McConnell is.
IANAD either but I agree. Especially for a politician. He’s been in congress for ages. Politician-101 is learning how to pivot when a question is asked and you don’t like it or fumble the narrative.
He just went stone silent for a long time.
