Tommy Tuberville spent most of the last term blocking important promotions just by refusing to adhere to the courtesy of unanimous consent. The Democrats have lots of tools at their disposal, even as a minority.
And here’s one example of how to obstruct.
Senate Democrats vow rare overnight session to protest Trump’s ‘most dangerous nominee’
“We’re going to take the floor for 30 hours,” he said, referring to time allowed for debate under Senate rules, before going on to describe Vought as the “architect of the dismantling of our federal government.”
Democrats have been going all out against Vought’s nomination, which Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said on Wednesday will be opposed by “all 47 Democrats” — which includes the two independent senators who caucus with the party.
“And we will take the floor early this afternoon and spend the whole night discussing how bad this nomination is and how it badly affects working families,” he said.
It will fail, to be sure, but that’s the fate of the minority.
Too bad it didn’t happen at the top of a long flight of stairs. And about 20 years ago.
There are some real tripping and slipping hazards in the Capitol. I happened to walk in the statues hall (statuary?), distracted myself and fell on the floor. But at least I didn’t get hurt like McConnell or Nancy Pelosi.
Did Pelosi slip and fall at some point in DC? The only tumble I’m aware of happened a couple of months ago, about twenty minutes from my house, here in Europe (it was very big news).
You’re right - oops my mistake! I must have been distracted when I heard about Pelosi’s hip fracture. Falling on marble/down some stairs can be hell on the bones.
This isn’t about McTurtleface falling, but I didn’t want to start a new thread.
Ouch–this has to smart!
Mitch McConnell is taking a beating in the race to replace him
Three GOP candidates, all former McConnell interns, are keeping their distance as they seek to align with President Donald Trump.
One Republican candidate to succeed Sen. Mitch McConnell introduced himself with an ad that shows a cardboard cutout of the longtime Senate majority leader in the trash.
Allies for a rival hit back with ads that noted the first candidate gave McConnell money.
And Daniel Cameron, the former Kentucky attorney general once considered a McConnell protégé, is now keeping his distance.
“I’m my own man,” Cameron said in an interview, later suggesting McConnell donors prefer one of his opponents.
The Senate primary to replace 83-year-old McConnell shows how profoundly the GOP base in his home state has soured on one of the most powerful and significant political figures in Kentucky history. …
This makes me think of St. Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Who? That dude? Never saw him before in my life!”
I guess Unca Mitch was hoping for something like loyalty?
…
While he at times expressed frustration or anger with President Donald Trump, McConnell used his political muscle to cement much of the president’s first-term legacy, including a 6-3 conservative majority on the Supreme Court that has helped pave the way for an even more disruptive second term…
Thanks for that, you S.O.B.

But many in the MAGA movement still view him as the embodiment of the GOP establishment that sought to hold Trump back. Three former interns for McConnell have distanced themselves while running to succeed him, pitching themselves as “America First” Republicans in Trump’s mold.
…
When McConnell is cited as an example of past Republican reasonableness, we are indeed doomed.
I wonder whether McTurtle now wishes had pushed for conviction in the second impeachment trial. He might just have succeeded and we wouldn’t be in this shit show. If wishes were horses…
From MAGAts in general or Trump in particular? I’d assumed he was smarter than that.
