Mitch McConnell falls twice in Capitol

Theres a statement posted by “him” on X

It must be obvious, but I am missing it. What other guy? Jesus went to hell?

Politically, I guess the other senate guy, hated by his base for disloyalty approximately as much as Republicans despise McConnell, would be Fetterman. Is that it?

I would have thought that “the other guy (in politics) that people most want to go to Hell” would have been obvious…

Republicans despise McConnell?

Wrong type of guy.

I disagree about him looking like he’s at death’s door. With modern medicine, that husk could go on for years. But he’s a good example of my personal health principle that older guys should carry 20 extra pounds or more, because otherwise their first bout in the hospital will shrink them to death.

And as much of that as muscle as possible.

He may not look like he is at death’s door, but he looks like any number of people in retirement homes and not leading the nation.

Trump, whose health continues to diminish but never fast enough for my liking. I thought he was going to die on 9/11 because it would totally steal the thunder from people who are actually worth building monuments to. Then again, that day should not be turned into one of celebration.

I would find it somewhat hilarious if Mitch outlives him. Although I hope it isn’t by much. Maybe they’re building a new East Wing in Hell and that’s the reason for the delay.

Nothing much to add, except to observe that this GOP party is so universally despicable that we who oppose it could reasonably surmise that they would willfully lie about a prominent death to hold onto power, and actively hide the body for three months simply because “that’s something that they would do.”

Because that is definitely something that they would do.

I find this to be a dangerous argument. At least, during the Obama years when I’d point out the o conservatives that their “shocking news” was fake, they’d invariably come back with some form of “OK, maybe Obama didn’t really do that, but it sounds like something he would do, and isn’t it scary that it’s so hard to tell the difference anymore?”

Sometimes it’s true that the horrible thing you’ve heard about is actually plausible, but I saw this argument used too many times to justify a lack of critical thinking to feel comfortable using it, even against the current crop of Republicans.

So we’re wrapping up the Mitch McConnell “I’m not dead yet!”/“I’m getting better!” skit. He gets the satisfaction of showing up for his last curtain NOT having had to satisfy demands about what was up and yes, having had a bunch of scenarios based on “but we KNOW that’s something they WOULD do” and the urgency about declaring him dead looking silly.

Well, not every one, but ever since he sharply attacked Trump for January 6 (despite voting to acquit on impeachment), yes.

It shows up in polls. And it’s not just dislike of congress. Republicans like Mike Johnson by a 3 to 1 ratio while disliking McConnell by a ratio of more than 3 to 2:

AP 2024: Few Republicans have a favorable opinion of Senate Minority leader McConnell

And a silly one. There was never a time when it was at all likely that McConnell was dead.

To be fair this is one of the few genuine “both sides do it” phenomena—there are examples on both sides. Diane Feinstein being a prominent Democratic one.

And it’s not necessarily down to Party dishonesty; it can be down to the self-interest (and dishonesty) of both the politician’s family and staff, the latter of whom have large paychecks on the line.

Altogether an unpleasant aspect of government. Make a post lucrative, and the result will often be shenanigans.

Not to be undone by their harebrained conspiracy theories being proven completely wrong, the Reddit crowd seem to have embraced some combination of McConnell being AI-generated, a body double, or that his staff (who are the real villains here pretending he’s still alive so they can collect vast payouts of taxpayer money somehow) are puppeteering his corpse to make him look like he isn’t dead.

When has that ever stopped them.

I have to assume they are mostly trolling and being trolled at this point.

Interesting. Thanks for the information. It looks it has only gotten worse since your date (2024). He currently holds an 11% approval rating. I guess blocking a Supreme Court justice only gets you so much love.

I understand she didn’t resign when many people thought she should do so because of diminished mental capacity. Is that what you are referring to?

I’m convinced it’s at least partially an op to convince people Andy Beshear isn’t presidential material because he should have “declared McConnell dead” and unilaterally named a replacement and dared Republicans to sue him over it.

The lights are on, but nobody’s home.

Does it jibe with the TMZ footage just posted? Also, did the C-SPAN footage have audio?
