My car has been really sluggish the past couple of weeks so I’m finally taking it into AAMCO tomorrow for a look. It’s lost a lot of acceleration and takes me a bit to get going from a stop or low speed. It’s a 99 Mirage - manual transmission - 100k miles. Could this just be the clutch going out? Any idea what this might cost from a place like AAMCO if that’s the case? Thanks for any help!
Sluggish how? Does the engine not respond well to the accelerator pedal? If so, it’s likely an ignition or fuel system problem. If the engine revs up but the car speed doesn’t increase correspondingly, it’s almost certainly a slipping clutch.
I would advise that a reputable independent shop is more likely to treat you fairly than the typical franchise/chain outlet.
Thanks Gary - it’s definitely the latter description. It revs up but I get much less speed/power than I used to. I’ll check around and see if I can find a local mechanic by word of mouth.
