Mitt, get that fucking smirk off of your face and try to show a modicum of respect.

Because your fellow Republicans are projecting their own personality flaws onto their perceived enemy? Makes you wonder why an intelligent person like you is casting your lot with them.

Thank you for the kind word.

But I have complained about the same demonization directed by Democrats against Republicans. Are they also projecting their own personality flaws onto their perceived enemy?

Or is it that people on each side substitute demonization for more thoughtful analysis?

Of course not. We live in the Land of Sunshine and Pretty Ponies, where each individual considers opposing arguments carefully and understands that disagreement does not imply malevolence. And we all sniff roses and hold hands and sing songs together. Sheesh.

THIS is the*** Bricker*** we remember. Not hesitant to skewer both sides.

Doesn’t it sound funny to you at all to say “well, they only gave him one Nobel Prize he didn’t earn”?

As you mention, his Senate seat is another illustration. Heck, when he was working as a lawyer, he was billing less than 20 hours a week. IANAL, but I was a consultant, and if I was billing less than half-time I would have heard from the president of my company about it.

I’m not saying he’s lazy - just that he is used to getting a little more than he earned. No doubt lots of that is because he was handsome and charismatic and obviously going places. Plus, as his running mate says - he’s so clean for a black guy!

But that’s the sort of thing I mean - all he had to do is stay out of trouble and bathe regularly, and he’s Presidential material - with no executive experience, no military experience, never having held a full-time job in the private sector, a part-time job as state Senator, and less than half a term in the US Senate.

I am not saying he did anything dishonest or evil - I think I remember reading that he always made it clear that he only wanted part-time work, so he could spend his time doing community organization and writing his books. But that’s my point - people have been bending over backwards to help him out and do him favors - like Tony Rezko, for instance.

But in the debate, there wasn’t anyone to help him out, although Lehrer let him get away with using more time than Romney (probably unconsciously). And he was clearly not very comfortable.

I hardly think holding the opinion that Obama got a Nobel Prize he didn’t do anything to deserve is the same as saying he’s rotten to the core. YMMV.

Shodan

Is it really that hard for you guys to not recite easily verifiable falsehoods?

Just for the record:

Obama worked as a financial services research associate at Business International Corporation from 1985-1986. He published the firm’s financial newsletter and composed financial reports.

He was a full-time summer associate at both Sidley Austin and Hopkins & Sutter. Subsequently he worked full-time as an associate for Davis, Miner, Barnhill, & Galland. Shodan’s statement that he didn’t bill more than 20 hours per week as an associate is a lie.

I have not included his various full-time private sector non-profit jobs, as I assume Shodan believes the liberals at the University of Chicago don’t know how the real economy works.

(The list also doesn’t include various other odd jobs working at deli counters, etc.)

Do you include exemptions, deductions and changes to marginal rates as part of an effort to redistribute wealth? Do you think Reagan’s supply side stimulus and bailouts were wealth redistribution? Do you think that under catallactics, wealth is distributed according to merit and requires no redistribution?

I am a believer in the labour theory of value (as opposed to the subjective theory of value to which Keynesians and Austrians, to the best of my knowledge, subscribe): that value is the result of socially average labour time. I believe that through private ownership of the means of production, value is redistributed to the upper echelons and that capitalism is inherently redistributive.

No, I am afraid it isn’t.

Cite.

:shrugs:

Probably won’t do any good, but there you go.

So the lawyer went to the Pearly Gated Community, and said, “Hey, how come I’d dead, I was only forty-four years old!” And St. Peter checked his books and said “Well, according to the billable hours you charged, you’re eighty-nine.”

Where does Shodan’s cite say he never billed more than twenty hours in any given week? Someone else will have to ask him, I’m invisible.

Look, I could give two shits what Shodan thinks, I just don’t want him misleading anyone else that might be reading.

The truth is, he has no idea what the distribution of billables was at that one firm, nor does he know what the ratio of billables to actual worked hours was. So he just averages it out and assumes Obama wasn’t working when he wasn’t billing, and applies the whole thing to all of his legal jobs (which is the real lie).

You’ll note how he doesn’t address the other aspects of his lie about a lack of private sector work experience.

Not overly concerned with the crowing. You have a choice between thoughtful honest expressions and carefully / relentlessly programmed and rehearsed looks, body language, “zingers” ready to be fired and the panoply of outright lies that have formed the balsa wood platform of the Right.

Sorry, but I pick honest. You want over-rehearsed bullshit? Go see a Broadway farce.

When Romney wins and he shuts down the DOE, the EPA and the GAO ( among others ) and appoints Haliburton as the de facto Contractor of All Situations, when the poor class grows exponentially and the middle class is replaced by a Lord of the Manor / Serf dynamic, when affordable medication is replaced with Big Drug demolishing the weak and ill for profits and Fracking runs underground from Maine to Indiana… Then and only then will the Conservatives unwealthy enough to not have their banking taken care of in the Grand Caymens have a startled moment of dismay.

They will know they have been fucked by the very guy they thought was their Heaven sent savior.

You know your side lost the debate when you have to focus on how someone looks.

Obama does have a problem…he has nothing to show for his 3.8 years, except:
-high unemployment (14.8%, if you count dropouts from the workforce)
-enormous deficits (1.1 trillion this year)
-no 5 million “green” jobs (like he promised)
-1200 more dead in Afghanistan
-gasoline > $5.60 /gallon (CA)
-a dead ambassador in Libya
-US troops in Africa (Sudan, Uganda, Chad)
Quite a record of success!
The next 4 years ought to equally successful.

And you had such high hopes for him, too!

Yeah! He hasn’t even been able to catch that Bin Laden guy!

How do we know that? Some Seals flew into Pakistan, killed some guy, and dumped him into the ocean, who the fuck knows who he was? Anybody see a long form death certificate? I didn’t think so. Just sayin’, is all.

Ah. A Birther. Lovely.

You can get that over 50% if you count babies, dead people, and federal prisoners.
